  1. I'm a bit confused with the Aspect ratio stuff in TMPGEnc. I'm making a 640x480 fullscreen avi to 544x480 DVD (I do the resize with Avisynth). With my settings in TMPGEnc the AR is totally wrong in the output. The picture is all squeezed (has lot of black on left & right).

    Here's my Avisynth script:
    Code:
    AVISource("D:\file.avi",false)
    LanczosResize(496,448,0,0,640,480)
    AddBorders(24,16,24,16)
    ConvertToRGB24()
    What I would like to know is what settings to use for the SOURCE AR and OUTPUT AR(and possibly Video arrange)? With these 3 settings I've found ways to get the AR look OK. BUT what is really the RIGHT and BEST way to do it??

    23,976 fps with 3:2 pulldown = 29,97 playback fps (NTSC Film, this is only supported by MPEG2 video)
    16:9 Anamorphic (only supported by 720x480)
    Those are the valid dvd resolutions. 544x480 is NOT compatible.

    But to preserve aspect ratio choose "16:9 display" in the source aspect ratio and choose "keep aspect ratio" to preserve the right look.

  3. Yes I am aware that 544x480 is not a standard dvd resolution. I'm doing this non-standard DVD on purpose. My player handles it just perfectly..

    I just tried to set the source AR to "16:9 525 line (NTSC)" and it seems to be right. That's the setting you meant, right? since the "16:9 diplay" setting totally mixes the AR up..

    So you're 100% positive these settings won't do any xtra resizing or anything?
