    Hello,

Ok just thinking randomly here - in the opening of TOP GUN they talk about why the training course was established. "Pilots lost there natural ability and RELIED TOO MUCH ON MISSLES"

Now the Tom Cruise character saves the day BUT all he uses are MISSLES!!!

I mean wasn't the whole point of the class to NOT EMPHASIZE missle use in combat???????????

If a real pilot had shown up the first day of training at Miramar with the attitude Cruise had, he would have had the shit kicked out of him, court-martialed, and thrown in the brig.

Hot dogs like that don't last long in the military. To this day I hate that movie for the false portrayal of naval aviators as adolescent dip-shits like Cruise :P The only Tom Cruise movies I really liked were Color Of Money, MI 1&2, and The Firm. The others were Cruise indulgences, and not worthy of watching, IMO.

    Hello,

Cap - mission impossible 2 was just a horrible action flick - nothing in it really. Can't say I remember MI 1 much....

Though personally I stay away from movies with the "big guys" in it - namely:

    Decaprrio
    Clooney
    Pitt
    Damon

Those guys' movies I avoid like the plague

Though I'll say I did like Sum of all fears - helped that it had MOrgan Freeman in it

  9. I disliked TopGun. To me., TC's role was like in "Taps" except with Airplanes.

    MI1 -- hated it!

    MI2 -- hated it more!

Eyes Wide shut -- hated it !!

Days of Thunder -- OK, but too much like TopGun except with cars.

    Vanilla Sky -- Great!

    Minority Report -- Pretty Good!

    Cocktail -- sucked !!

    Jerry Maguire -- Great!

    Risky Business -- Pretty Good.

The remaining were so-so!! Although I have not seen Last Samurai

That will NEVER happen in America - we like driving too much! And if it ever DID happen it would take a lot longer than 30 or 40 years to redo a cities infrastructure to incorporate it!

What they meant in the movie Yoda is they had lost their ability to evade the other fighter planes in close proximity combat.

IE - Pilots were using missiles to blow up targets from a distance, but once the distance was closed down too close for missiles, planes were shot down because pilots had lost their ability to manuever

And I do agree about Tom Cruise movies, first he has one tooth in the middle, instead of the 2 like everyone else, his wife...while hot and definitely do-able is annoying and whinney everytime I've ever seen her on TV. I found the movie entertaining but definitely not a top 100 by any stretch, I was a bit put off by Goose getting killed, Cruise being punked everytime by Kilmer, Kelly McGillis was a poor selection, attractive but not HOT, and Meg Ryan never got naked

Actually I think the best part of the movie was the sound track.

I will also 2nd DeCraprrio, I can't stand that guy, and have not, nor ever will watch Titanic because of him. The only movie I have watched with him in it was "Catch me if you can" and that was only because Tom Hanks was in it.

I don't care much for Clooney or Pitt either.

Damon...well...while I'm not a fan, I thought Bourne Identity was alright but could have been done much better.

I tend to watch movies with certain actors in them...

    Samuel Jackson
    Clint Eastwood
    Harrison Ford
    Sean Connery
    Robert DeNero
    Al Pacino
    Morgan Freeman
    etc.

Now the movies I watch concerning acrtresses span a wider spectrum

With that list it REALLY depends on the movie!

I have a hard time sitting through any of his movies

Only could watch Endless Love again...but that was his very first movie and he only had about 2 mins of screen time.

The Outsiders - can't stand the movie but would maybe forward to Diane Lane's scenes 8)

I agree. Arnold Ziffel is truly great. Very under-rated as an actor and worthy of greater recognition!!

Yep. Good choices there. I could watch only movies with those actors for the rest of my life and be perfectly happy

But ...there are surprises. Don't hate me guys, or pull out the ghey territory links, but I sat and watched Joy Luck Club last night with the little woman (she hates that term, hee hee). And I liked it

Maybe it's because Rosalind Chao is in it and I've had a crush on her since Star Trek TNG. Or that other hot asian chick what's her name.

OK, now you know what I got from the movie. Nope. Nothing wrong here. 8)

No, not necessarily. Most fighters in the U.S. inventory use medium-range and short-range missiles as the primary weapons in air-to-air combat. The gun, is only used as a backup weapon. The F-16 for instance, only has about 500 rounds of ammo, and will expend that in just a few seconds.

    Hello,

    Oh didn't know that.....

    Thanks.

So that's REALLY just a backup huh??? I guess the bullet ammo would add to much of a payload and require more fuel is that it????

Well, it is more or less if you've expended all your missiles and trying to disengage from a dogfight, it's better than nothing. Most fighters and aircrews (pilots) today are so well trained, a gun is pretty useless, as the aircraft engaged in combat are twisting and turning so much, the bullets seldom, if ever, go in a straight line, once the leave the gun.
