  1. Hi Everyone,

Can anyone give me some suggestions in encoding SVCD? I capture the clip with DVC II under DVD-MPEG2 (8000 bitrate) and encoded the clip with TMPGEnc. using the SVCD template. I followed the instructions in the How To section but didn't work. So I just use the provided (SVCD) template in TMPGEnc. but only change the bitrate, encode mode as "non-interlace" and motion search as "Motion Est. Search (Fast). The SVCD played very good on my Pioneer DV-434 but once I fast forward or backward, the picture will jitter. The only way to stop the jitter is to "stop" and restart the SVCD again. Also, when I play DVD or VCD, I can resume to wherever I stop the CD but not with the SVCD. What am I doing wrong! Can someone help me?

    Thanks

  2. I don't know about the jitter problem, I'm having a similar problem myself, only my svcd jitters while its playing back!!

As far as the vcd/svcd not resuming when you stop playback, that's because most vcd/svcd's (other than version 2) will not support PCB (play back control). If your dvd player has such a thing, turn it off! When you want to resume press "RESUME" button and NOT the PLAY button. Hope this helps.

  3. Spidy,

Thanks for the advice but that's not the problem. My DVD player does not a resume button. It just resume by itself. I made vcd and was able to resume after I stop and turn off the power. It can resume for DVDs and VCD but not SVCD. I think its because I'm missing some kind of file which DVD and VCD has. That's only what I think!

Well, for your jitter problem. Try this, launch TMPGEnc., browse for your clip and then load the DVD template. Then unlock it and change the settings as:

    Size: 480 x 480
Rate Control Mode: Constant Bitrate CBR
Bitrate: Use the bitrate calculator's average bitrate
    Encode Mode: Inverse 3:2 pulldown
Motion Search Precision: Motion Estimated Search (Fast)

*NOTE: Remember in the "System" tab, the MPEG-2 SVCD (VBR) is selected.

Then hit "start". It should fix you jitter problem. Let me know. Good Luck, Jordan
