  1. Hello - I'm pretty new to this. I have a Shinsonic DVD-100 (Best Buy @ $80.00). I really like the player, has almost as good of picture as my $300 Toshiba, very decent quality sound. It plays VCD's, but according to the manufacturer, doesn't support SVCD's. I can get SVCD's to play fine in it, but I can't fast forward, rewind, or time search the SVCD. Also, the player cuts off the last 3-10 minutes of each home-burned CD. I have validated with WinDVD that the whole movie is on the disc.

I've tried buring with Nero, converting the mpg file to cue/bin with VCDImager and burning with CDRWin 3.8a. Nothing works. VCD's work wonderfully in the machine with no problems.

I'm wondering if there are any suggestions on how to burn my SVCD's so they won't have these problems. I just donwloaded the VCD composer to use with VCDImager to hopefully create perfected scandat, etc. files. I will try it tomorrow. Here's an interesting item: my player shows a windows explorer-like foler menu when I insert mp3's and svcds. I notice that the file the mpg is contained in is called mpegav. I think I've tried to burn the cd using this option but to no effect. (I say think because I've tried about 20-30 diffent times this weekend!)

This player is so new that I can't even find any references to it in google. However, I am reluctant to return it because I am so impressed with the video/dolby digital sound. I don't want to turn in a great player with a moderate problem and get a so-so player that plays both vcd and svcd with mediocre quality. Plus, Best Buy charges a restocking fee

  2. sorry, i'm not going to be able to help with the svcd problem, but i wanted to let you know that best buy does not charge a restocking fee on the product you bought [regardless of what you may have been told]. they only charge a restocking fee if you are missing items [like remotes or manuals]. if you do decide to return it you have 30 days to do so, and it should not be a problem. if you get a manager involved they can allow 45 days to return it
