Burning avi. video file off hard drive onto DVD+R to watch on DVD player hooked to TV. Using NeroVision Express 3. Started w/"Make DVD", "DVD-Video", and then "Default Video Options" and clicked "DVD-Video". Set QUALITY setting to "Standard play" and added video file. Now have the following message:
Your project contains more PAL than NTSC material, but will be encoded in NTSC if you use the current settings. Do you want to change the settings to PAL, so that your project will be encoded in the video mode that matches the majority of the project's contents?
Do I want YES or NO?
AND what kind of quality will my VCD be at "Standard" setting?

NTSC
Abbreviation of National Television Standards Committee. The NTSC is responsible for setting television and video standards in the United States (in Europe and other parts of the world, the dominant television standards are PAL and SECAM). The NTSC standard for television defines a composite video signal with a refresh rate of 60 fields (half-frames interlaced) per second. Each frame contains 525 lines and can contain 16 million different colors. The resolution of an NTSC VCD is 352x240 pixels, an NTSC SVCD is 480x480, and an NTSC full D1 DVD is 704 or 720 x 480.
I got this from the Glossary on the left<<<<
As for the quality i realy cant answer,I never used Nero. -
Yes hit no,But i must warn you,Converting Pal to NTSC with nero will not be very good.

What are you trying to do?
I read your initial post and it sounds like you want to burn avi files onto a DVD purely for the size benefit (basically making using of multiple avi's to 1 dvd vs 1 avi to one cd and then playing that from your computer's dvd rom drive with a cable to your TV.
If that is the case, do not burn as a DVD and all that, simply burn it as a data disc.
If however, you are wanting to convert the avi's to a legal dvd file, which can be played in most dvd players, then canadatek's advice is correct (especially this post above me----it will not be pretty).
Since you are a self proclaimed noob (your thread name) and I am guessing that you dont want to "learn" conversions and all the little nuances (a lot of people dont) of video, download a piece of freeware at www.thefilmachine.com and also an application called divfix.
Run divfix first as it will ID all bad frames, etc. then let thefilmachine application (the quenc encoder is free and is pretty good) automaticallly convert the avi to a valid dvd file. Then use any authoring program (like tmpgenc dvd author or whatever authoring application came with your dvd burner, and your done. -
Canadatech, thanks again.
Macleod, you know how some people say they're newbies but actually understand A LOT? Aside from the on/off button I-AM-LOSTThat stated, let me address your feedback as best I can.

***No, only taking ONE large avi video file and trying to burn on ONE DVD+R.
vs 1 avi to one cd and then playing that from your computer's dvd rom drive with a cable to your TV.
***No, want to play from my Panasonic DVD-L50 which is connected to my TV.
Because my knowledge is SO low, I need a "one-stop shopping" tool like Nero. Even just one more application becomes too confusing. AND my major frustration with NeroVision Express 3 is that I HAVE burned EXACTLY what I'm talking about accomplishing here before. Some DVD's have come out great and others a message that they can't be played on my DVD player EVEN THOUGH I'VE DONE THE EXACT SAME THING (NVE 3, DVD+R, avi. file, etc) with the sucessful ones!!!! whew.

USA = NTSC

Well, you were able to sign up at videohelp.com and wait the 72 hours, so you are more advanced than the on/off button.
There are a number of reasons why the dvd didnt play correctly ranging from a fragmented hard drive to nero itself goofing to bad media.
I guess since you dont want to step outside of nero , based on that, select yes when it tells you about the PAL/NTSC thing (you want it to be encoded as NTSC, which is the video signal for the US).
the quality will "suck" as compared to what you can get using other methods as well as audio/video sync issues.... -

Confusing as earlier Canadatech said to hit NO -
