I think I understand now. This refers to the 'Render As' dialog, right?

I found that if you change the 4CC codes in the AVI file header to :

    Description code - DiVX3
    FourCC code used - DiVX

for both XViD and DiVX ..
The 4CC changer I have only has these options for Description code - XVID, DIVX, DIV3, DIV4, MP43, MP42

  5. I got it to work by upgrading to Divx 6 and then removing the XVID codec.

But Vegas doesn't work well with Divx. It's quite sluggish. I think I'll be converting the Divx files to MJPEG before editing.

if you want speed == use DV instead

if you want quality -- dont covert anything , but use a proxy file , then swap for final rendering ...

  7. I haven't heard of proxy files before. I googled it and the name GearShift came up a lot. Is that what you recommend?

Hey, I also have come across this recently. Sorry to bring up an old thread but didn't want to create a whole new topic. Xvid worked fine in Vegas 6.0, then un-installed Xvid then the newer but after I updated my Xvid it stopped working. Get the no attributes error. Tried the CC Changer that came with it and didn't work. Changed them as mentioned in this post. That did nothing. Downloaded the latest Divx bundle and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

  9. I find it Only works with DIVX 5.2.1.Can also play Xvid with this Codec. So no Real need for XVID Unless to Encode.

Tried that and nothing. Do you think it has something to do with a previous removal of the file xvid.dll. It was causing problems with my explorer and I had got rid of it but then just tried putting a different copy that I got but still nothing.

this issue has been been beaten to death in the vegas forums -- and no real perm. solution that works for everyone has been found ..

best bet is to frame serve from an earlier version of vegas to newer version of vegas .

as with other pro NLE, support for xvid (or divx to a lessor degree) is not a top priority ..

I'm not to sure about frame serving but would it maybe work if I tried re-installing Vegas? Or is it at least worth a try? I think I've done almost everything.

it didnt work for anyone else - but go ahead and try ..

a way that does work is to install vegas 3 or 4 and frame serve to 6

  14. You Used (DIVX 5.2.1) I have tested and re-tested on a few computers and this was the only way.

  15. btw, just wanted to point out...i know this topic was started a while ago, but the whole divx fast motion vs slow motion.....at that point, you had EXTREMELY old divx codecs installed (divx 3!) so that's likely part of the reason you couldnt properly import the files....

Hey, I have finally fixed this problem, for the most part. I had it so it read every AVI video as 3IVX and a lot of my vids wiould play choppy and picture would get messed. But after some fooling around got it to read everything as Divx 5 which is defenitely good enough for me. Now this isn't totally related but now I notice, even before the switch. It won't read a lot of the audio with these clips. The only ones it picks up are the rescent clips I have captured which are uncompressed audio. Anything I can do to make it so it reads all other audio formats again. Sorry for the bother, any help is appreciated.

  18. I'm not sure if this can be used as a general fix for everyone, but here is how I finally got all my divx and xvid files (video and audio stream) to import correctly in Vegas:

    - Installed the latest update of Vegas (v.6.0.d)
    - Installed the latest divx codec (v.6.1)
    - Installed the latest version of AutoGK (v.2.27) which contains the xvid codec

    Important:

Before you can successfully import any divx or xvid file in Vegas, you HAVE TO change the fourcc header to "DIVX" (all caps)!!! Most of the divx files I had showed DX50, with that Vegas DID NOT recognize the audio stream. To change the fourcc header I use a small application called aviC.exe which can be downloaded for free here http://www.divx-digest.com/software/avifourcc.html

    Hope this helped.

  20. I have a solution that works for me, i just want to know if that works with EVERY type of divx/xvid.

With satsuki codec pack, even if video was correctly played on Media player Classic, i couldn't import them into vegas.
but "taadaaa !!" here's come a special xvid codec ! it doesn't interfere with ffdshow or other when i just play them, but now i can import them ! in fact, i have this codec for 2 years, but i didn't know that the Vegas community had so many pb with xvid !!!

    http://<a class="contentlink" href="http://perso.wanadoo.fr/kame.sennin/XviD4Vegas.rar...4Vegas.rar</a>

please let me know if that works !

edit: i tried some OOoold samples in divx3, did not work. but i assure you that this codec solves a LOT of pbs !!

  22. i know, but i'm using this codec only for inserting the problematic videos in Vegas. i'm using ffdshow for encoding.

Yep, it's very strange that an old release of xvid works... maybe it's a bug from xvid that noone noticed before <_<

A simple solution - remove ALL DIVX s**t, XVID etc.
Install FFDSHOW, in WFV config/decoder set all divx/xvid/mp4 formats to libavcodec.
    Open Vegas - check

It seems IT IS a solution after all because at least in my case it's working perfectly!

I've been dealing with this problem nearly for a half of a century and now finally it's been solved. Beautiful! Just beautiful!

    To iasho:
I can't even tell you enough how grateful I am.. Thanks VERY MUCH pal. Really. Thanks very much.
