I have a Sony DV Camera and I'm unable to transfer the stills via firewire. I was also told when I bought the cam that I could transfer my video via the USB it would just take forever, I found out later that it doesnt work that way. USB = on smartmedia. FireWire = video

Thanks Dsquare!
you confirmed my suspicion. I read at some place that theoretically it is possible to transfer still via firewire (thru some s/w adpater??) but most of the Digi cam mnfg are recommending going the USB route. Unfortunately I do not have a USB port on my digi-cam ... so i guess I need to buy a smartmedia reader.
