I have just recently upgraded my machine ..and reinstalled XP.

I am trying to reinstall some filters and codecs ...but having issues

In particular I am trying to install an AC3 filter for conversion work.

I right click on the .inf file and select install ...then XP sticks
    its ugly butt in!!

It says it cant let me do this cause it doesnt follow the Microsft approved
    driver ..etc program.

Anyone had this issue?? and anyone have a solution???

    Sorry....

I should have mentioned that XP just said it wasnt allowing installation of this hardware...no option of clicking anything!!

I havent run across this little bully boy tactic by XP before ...I thought I decided what I could or couldnt install??

there is an option in your pref. to allow or not allow ms approved software -- turn it off ....

some system admins will enable this - and in such cases dont turn it off (and you might not be able to)

I am relatively new to XP ...mostly did work on Macs

but now in setting up the PC learning the "extras of XP"...

I am set as an Admistrator in permissions on my machine...

So this a new bit of guidance for me...where are these preferences
you mention to be found ?? Appreciate any help in this area...

In installing these codecs ...one always has to be careful of conflicts
and them not working correctly...and its nice Microsoft has our interest so much to heart...but being able to control this restriction would be good..

So I am very interested to learn where to go in XP to be able to alter this
setting....just a few pointers would be good ..eg look under this section etc then in this area...any help as mentioned much appreciated!!

right click on "MY computer" and choose 'properties'

    click the 'hardware' tab

    click 'driver signing'

click 'warn' or ' ignore' settings

click yes ' make this action system default' (add checkmark to box)

    click apply and close --

    thats it ..
