  1. Will there be a Dual Layer disc for the -R format? If so how long until they become available?

I dont like the +R format, simply because of all the DVD players I have in the house (about 6!), only one happily plays the +R format without any problems.

I wouldn't bother with DL discs right now as they're so expensive. Wait another year and the prices should be down quite a bit. I too have a DL drive but no discs as all of my standalone players are -R format.

The -R camp was trying to work out bugs in the system. They found out that the burner had to write to both layers at the same time. Have patience, for when it comes out, it will be more compatible.

I will say that I have a Pioneer 108 and have burned about 8 DL DVD's ( all Vebatim ). I have been pleasantly surprised at how many DVD players have played them, in fact a couple of my DVD players that do not play DVD+R at all, have played DL ones without any problems.

Yes. I would guess on late Q1 or Q2.

You obviously have not tried +R with DVD-ROM bitsetting. They would probably all play DVD+R with DVD-ROM book type if they play DVD-R and most of them would probably also play a correctly authored and burned DVD+R DL with DVD-ROM book type. There is no reason to believe DVD-R DL will be more compatible than DVD+R DL.

  7. Plus your Pioneer automaticaly burns +DL as DVD-ROM bitsetting, which is why you were so suprised.
