can (recent) Pioneer DVD recorders be connected to a computer via firewire and record DV movie directly from that computer
I do that with my JVC recorder but a friend wants to do the same, but has read about the problems with JVC (loading message) and therefore prefers a Pioneer

Yes, I can do it with my Pioneer 520 H and my notebook via Firewire, but I must use the "Write to tape" function of the software (Media Studio Pro, Pinnacle Studio 9 , Adobe Premiere....)

Yes, Pioneer's Firewire-equipped models can do this. I've done it from iMovie on my Mac. The Pioneer also exports from a non-encrypted DVD or from the hard drive via Firewire to a camera or PC in DV format.
