  1. After ready many posts on this web site, I captued a 2 hour VHS file using my canopus advc-100. I used th bit rate calc. program and using Ulead VS 7.0, I captured the entire two hours, no dropped froames and the file is about 4.1 Gig on my hard frive. When I go to use Ulead Movie Factory 2.0 to burn the DVD, the required space on the DVD is 5.1 Gig and I can't burn the DVD. I am confused, why won't it fit? The file is ony 4.1 gig? I should add, the file was capyured into a MPEG2 format.

What audio format are you specifying? Your MPEG file probably uses MPEG audio (compressed). It is likely that your authoring software is trying to put an LPCM (uncompresed) sound track on your DVD which can add another 600-700 MB per hour of audio (LPCM or AC3 are required for a standard NTSC DVD, LPCM is free, AC3 is compressed, but costs money for licensing and is not included in most consumer level software).

In the settings for MF2-se there is a item for "do not recode compliant mpg" or something to that order

If that setting is checked and your mpg file is compliant then when you import the file MF2 will use the file properties to burn.
audio= mpg1 layer 2, 4800 sample rate is ok, if it is 44100 then it will recode to the default project settings unless you manually change it.

once the file is imported, click on the i (properties icon) and it will tell youwhat the file properties are.

  4. tdan, you were right in the money! Thanks. Once I changed the authoring software to use MPEG audio, it reduced it to where I could burn the DVD. The dvd's all played on my stand alone dvd players so I guess this is ok to do????
