    Hi all

I ripped my 1st DVD last night & everything went OK. However when it was encoding , the speed on my Toshiba 1712 DVD ROM started at 2.2x and topped at 4.5x.

Why doesn't it rip at 10x or more (which it should, no?). I HAVE read other posts in this forum & have tried to see if my DVD drive is running in DMA mode (no mention in Device Manager & I looked in the BIOS but I can't find any mention of DMA settings.

    Can anyone help me?

    Thanks

go to this site to unlock the ripspeed in your TOSHIBA 1712. your drive is locked to 2x speed which is why it takes long to rip a dvd.

I have a 1712 and (3) 1612 drives that rip fast after flashing the drives with the hacked firmwares.

if you're runnning XP here's the link on how to ENABLE DMA MODE:

if you're running WINDOWS 2000 PRO here's the link on ENABLING DMA MODE:

I've checked and everything's OK - DMA enabled.

Maybe I'll look for that hack - will it cause me any problems???

as long as you flash the drive correctly with the hack firmware you will be fine.....i would suggest you print out the instructions before flashing the drive....if you have questions get help from the firmware index page FIRMWARE FLASHING HELP forum:
