Is it best to Capture it in DV type 1 or 2 or just DVD if you plan on edting it later?

The general rule of thumb is to capture (really transfer) as DVAVI, but stand back opinions are going to start to fly! The only real drawback that I see is the file size. But yes this DVAVI is probally where you want to start if you intend to do any real editing. Another consideration is how you intend to turn the AVI into DVD compliant files. Hardware V/S software. Hardware is generally considered faster and software is sometimes of better quality or more versital. Check out the "how to" section to the left over there and see if any pertain to your goals, ambitions or system abilities.
I am assuming that your Mini DV is from your home movies, and that leads me to think that you will want to do some editing.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
I like Type 2 just because it seems more compatible with Virtualdub and TMPGEnc encoder, but other software can use Type 1. DV is very easy to edit, at least compared to MPEG-2.
