xbox modding tips for newbies???

It WORKS!!!!

I had successfully softmodded my xbox the other week but could never get the programs working for it.

Well I was up till 3am last night tickering with it and got them to load up properly!!!!!

I had my first experience with IRC which was weird but worked out ok - got what I needed

Then I did some FTP'ing with my xbox and got it to load!!! Then I read up some more on www.xbox-scene.com and found out how to add the games and apps to the menu! I love it!

The best part is the dvd program. It's region free and ACTUALLY PLAYS MY PAL DISC!!!!!! I have one pal disc and it's a roxette video collection that can only play on my pc. But I never got around to taking the HOURS it would take to encode the whole thing to NTSC. Now I don't HAVE TO!!! The other thing I could do is dub it to my wintv pvr250 in real time if I want to have it available in regular dvd mode for other players (I don't have any Region free/pal-ntsc players - just standard NTSC mode only ). The disc is only in dolby 2.0 stereo so I wouldn't lose anything by doing an analog dub - besides some video quality natch.....

This has been fun and thanks a million to PS2DADDY for the guidance he gave (or she?????)

Next up is getting xbox media center to work. For some reason it won't let me access the menu system. It loads up then hangs. I think I might just delete it and reinstall it

Nope but you can install any size you want.

I'm using it to try to make backups - of my own games of course :wink;

It will also let you play divx discs, streaming media, homebrew games, ROMS, and more.....

But you either have to uninstall your softmod which is what I do to play on XBOX LIVE (to avoid being banned). OR if you get a mod chip it has to be disabled to play on live - and only ORIGINAL games will play on live.

Try an older version of the media center and also delet any save that the media center creates that you uninstall

I finally (after 2.5 years) took the plunge and swapped out the hard drive on my Xbox for 160gb. I used DVD2Xbox to copy my games over to it. It works awesome! Initially, it took a while for Halo to load, but after that, all of the games load really fast! I have somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 games on the HD and over 80gb of space left! A definate recommendation for those of you not on Xbox live.

Also for those that havent signed up for xbox-live and have installed a larger HD
if you save your original HD and sign up with that one you can just swap the drive when ever you want to use xbox live with a chip or softmod

If you have already signed up for live you must use the HD you signed up with to prevent banning

Hard drive load times are HUGELY superior to the discs. This was reason enough to hack the machine.

Agreed. My wife asked me if I wanted to try Xbox Live once. No... I don't think so. Especially the whole headset thing. I don't even like talking on the phone to people I know; let alone talking to people I have never/will never meet in my entire life for hours at a time.

I modded my Xbox... never realized how much more fun it would be until I did it. As for Xbox Live, I tried it and found it every bit as enlightening and intellectually stimulating as CB channel 19.

If you're going to play a game with people all over the world, just get it on PC. Load times take for friggin' ever. You have to mod it and connect several boxes together for a reall fun game.

NOPE! Just go to the main menu of the softmod program and select UNINSTALL. About a minute later shut down. Boot up again and WALLA - NO BANNING!! Only takes a minute to install after the first time also.....

I do that at friends houses. We'll have 4-8 people on one end of the house, and another 4-8 people at the other end. We can't hear the other team, but we can easily talk to each other and not have to type or say anything over the computer.

Yep and xbconnect and xlink kai both worh with backups and modifed xboxes unlike live
