Just bought this and I am very happy with it, love it.

I have a digital cable box and when I set the auto record feature it turns on right away even though the cable box is out. I know I saw something on here about this problem, anyone have a fix?

I have a Pioneer 310 with this feature, but have not tried it yet. My manual states the outboard device (i.e. cable box) must be connected to input number one. You might want to check this, and perhaps try the other inputs too just for the heck of it.

Like you, I am exteremely happy with my machine. I tried a Panasonic unit but got rid of it ASAP. I was disappointed in the Panasonic at many levels. My Pioneer is a flawless gem.

    Happy New Year!

  3. Is the cable box timer set? ANd is the cable box sending out a signal. The 220 responds or in this case starts recording when it see a signal.

everything is connected correctly. I did not set the timer on the cable box, I will try that and repeat my steps and see if it works.
Right now I turn the box off, when I select auto record the DVR shuts down but starts right back up and starts to record as if it senses a signal, but the cable box is off???

Besides this minor problem I really love this unit!! Glad I passed on the Pany abd JVC.

  5. You may need to hang a monitor off of the box to see if its still pumping out a signal.

    Good luck.

If everything is connected correctly, try un-connecting the cable box from the Pioneer and see what happens. If the Pioneer still starts up, then it must be a flaw in your DVR. If it doesn't start, then the flaw must be the cable box (as Nightwing suggests). Finally, connect the cable box to the Pioneer, but un-plug the cable box from the electrical socket and try the test again. If this solves the problem, it's definately your cable box. Sounds stange, but weird things happen all the time.

The same thing happens with my DVR-510 and there was a thread on this topic here several months ago. It seems the cable box is passing through a signal even when it is off. In my case it is an audio signal. So the Pioneer automatically turns on. It would be nice if this feature worked with my set up, but it does not.

Yeah signal must come from the box even when off, I belive there is no way around this, would have to use timer on both units, too bad.
Does anyone know if a VCR comander(avail from cable co) would work on this unit???
