Adobe Premiere Pro Green Capture screen

When I capture my dv video from my panasonic GS120 in adobe premiere all I get is a green screen. Once the video has been captured I can watch it fine, but I can't see what I am capturing. Any help would be much appreciated as I have payed a lot of money for both camera and software.

Does your DV look normal in your media player? My first guess is that you don't have a DV Codec installed or you need to upgrade your DirectX.
I personally would frameserve from Adobe Premiere Pro to TMPGEnc or CCE as APP doesn't really have the best encoder (When you go to Export and even maintain data rate as DV.)

If you're not that picky about your final product, then just export in Adobe. If you're going to use an AVI codec, please use XviD. I have done _a LOT_ of experimenting over a long period of time and I have come to this nutshell conclusion: XviD gives sharper video at smaller filesizes than DivX. DiVX smoothes too much, losing a lot of detail while increasing filesize. A 1 minute DV clip in DivX was 12.5 MBs at 1500 kbps. In XvID it was about 9.8 MBs. Going to encode 30 minutes of video? You're going to notice a significant difference in filesize.

Try capturing with WinDV and see if you can see the picture then.

Also, WinDV will capture to separate files for each separate bit of recording you've done on the tape - I left my cam running for 30 mins and it caught every clip perfectly in it's own file.

I use Premiere 6.0 to edit, and capturing in that was continuous - you had to start and stop for each clip. WinDV has saved me soooo much time.

I don't know if Pro does that or not.

Oh, I totally overlooked that he said he couldn't capture properly in AP. Yes, definitely use WinDV. It is the best for DV capture. Extremely small, excellent functionality and of course the preview window.

Cool... No problem.

But it's a bit weird that Premiere isn't. Just remember this if you have seemingly unrelated problems in the future. There may be a common underlying problem...

Still, I prefer WinDV instead of Premiere for capturing.
