  1. I think I read somewhere of how to get the WMV file from the ASX file. I know that the ASX file is just text. It has a URL listed in the text file that is something like this: mms://media.something.com/myfile.wmv. Is there a way to download this WMV file?

BTW - I have tried screen capture programs like camstudio, but the resulting quality suffers.

What happens when you right click and save the target as...?
    Hello.

  3. It saves the ASX file. The ASX file is just a text file that points to the actual video file. If you copy and paste the URL into your browser, it starts WinMedPlayer and the WMV file (listed in the ASX file) starts to play and the "Save As" option in WinMedPlayer is greyed out.

And have you looked at any of the video streaming capture tools in the Tools section at left?

  6. I tried Camtasia trial version and it seems to be able to capture the streaming video, although it is a bit pricey and a bit of overkill for what I was looking for. I really just wanted to be able to "get" the WMV file from the streaming video.

Yes. Use Net Transport. Fully functional shareware, but the author asks for PayPal donations.

  12. After much trial and error, I found a program that works well. It is Hi-Net Recorder. It does exactly what I want. The help file is in Japanese, but it is very easy to use and a help file is really not needed. By the way, I tried unsuccessfully with BStream, Net Transport, ASF Recorder, and probably a few others.
