    in answer to first question - yes

    in answer to second question - yes .. it is built in

    tools- > scripting -> batch render ..

    or one of the other batch render scripts on the VAAST site

  2. there is under tools - scripting an option for batch rendering

    i haven't used that yet, and you have just actually alerted me to that.

    you are right as long as your project is set to ntsc. You may want to adjust the pan/scan settings of your vid clip, and well as set the original settings using the context menu properties.

    The more I use Vegas, the more I love it. Best investment I ever made. Using the batch render does not look trivial. Any guides or advice?

  4. it is really cool, I don't think you need any other nle or things like adobe after effects with this software.

    quickly looking at batch render, if you have multiple clips , you could select the range as like you set the loop region, then press "r" on the keyboard to set a range. Do this as many times as needed, and then do the batch encode thing, and slect the encode ranges. Select your appropriate output modes for video and audio, and a base file to name your output files.

  7. i confess, i haven't looked closely at adobe after effects. I might take a look at it after i've got rid of some space on my hard drive. Whats sort of things can you do in after effets than you can't do in vegas?

    Not a chance in hell. Adobe AfterFX 6.5 is a high-end application with loads of features. The mask tool options alone in AfterFX are far beyond anything Vegas can hope to do. AfterFX is a serious program that produces first class quality output. I have not seen anything for less than a thousand dollars that comes even close. The text tools in AfterFX are also great, the myriad of filters and effects are extensive. The way AfterFX treats layers is very very powerful, you have full control of each layer to add filters, motion, fades etc. the possibilities are endless. AfterFX also funny supports the alpha channel in PSD images, a huge plus. AfterFX is easily Adobe's best program.

    HOWEVER, AfterFX is not a serious video editor. It has basically no tools for cutting, joining, editing etc. it is for composite work and adding effects to existing footage. It needs to be teamed up with a true video editor like Premiere or Vegas. Personally I left Premiere behind and use Vegas among other editors. Don't get me wrong I love Vegas but it has no chance of replacing AfterFX.

    funny -- adobe didnt even write After Effects .. and many do say its thier best program ... i prefer fusion myself and shake ... just because i am used to thier simular work style .. both are higher end applications than AE though ... so is combustion, flint/flame and fury ..

    Back to batch render, I want to render clips from several different Vegas files. Is that even possible?

    yes sure -- for one thing .. you can have as many vegas open as you want .. for another, you can use other batch file render scripts --see the vaast site i mentioned before ..

    I downloaded a script called "batchrenderGUI" from the VAAST site, but when I run it, I get an error that says

    Compilation error on line 77:

    Variable 'Timecode' has not been declared

    System.ApplicationException: Failed to compile script: 'C:\Traffic Video\Apps\vegas batch render gui\BatchRenderGUI_(JHM).js'
    at Sony.Vegas.ScriptHost.RunScript()

    Now I'm confused. Say I have 3 vegas files to render. Should I open all 3 files in 3 instances of vegas? Do I need to set regions if I'm rendering the whole project? Finally, how do I set encoding options, like bit rate etc..? I'm new to scripting if you couldn't tell.

    Finally figured it out. I had to change "SonicFoundry.Vegas" to "Sony.Vegas" in the script, because the script was written for Vegas 4.0. This should save me lots of time. Thanks guys!
