  1. I'm new to using Premiere Pro, and had a problem editing a clip. I have a movie with 20 seconds of black at the top. On the timeline I dragged the left edge of the clip to the right and kept one second of black, and then the video dissolves up. Fine, I saved the project. When I replay the project it plays as such. Next I frameserved and exported the video. When I open up that file the 20 seconds of black is back. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to 'scissor cut' the black out. Thanks.

when you slid the edge to the right - you have to slid the whole clip to the left or the empty space will be created as black ..

or start the frame serve from the new start point ..

Maybe try setting your timeline scrubber 19 seconds into the clip, then to go to sequence on the tool bar and razor at current time indicator, then right click on the portion you just razored to clear the 19 seconds of black. Then slide the clip to the left edge of the timeline.

drag the clip all the way to the left .
You can also create a black video File>New>Black Video, right click the video and select duration and change the value, a lot of people do not realize that razoring the video will not help if you change the length later, if you resize the clip you are adding the previous video or music back to it. Strange but that is what your problem may be also.

  7. Thanks everyone, I'm pretty sure the problem is that I didn't drag the entire project back to the beginning of the timeline. That should fix it. Happy New Year to all!
