  1. HI, I just bought the philips 642 dvix certified player recently and I have some videos that are 640*480 res. The players resizing cuts off the top and bottom. Thus, I have problems reading subtitles.
Does any one know how to fix the problem?
I have been playing with the 4:3 and 16:9 resolution on the player and tv and it doesn't fix the problem cuz it still automatically adjust the avi file. What res i can put my files at so it can correctly size them. And is there any fast way to change the res without reencoding them? Probably by changing the options on the tv or the player.

    Thanks much!

Are you sure it's the player that cuts the edges off? I'd say it's the TV - it's called overscan. If improperly positioned, this causes subtitles to be cut off. Solution? Place your subs higher up when encoding.
If the subs are a separate file (I don't think so in this case?) the player is responsible for positionin them correctly...

  4. Sigh,

I just bought this player from amazon.com
man....I have the same problems with subs etc and also most anime films sub were cut.
But it's still a good dvd at a good price....you can't really get avi player for this cheap and I believe the more expensive ones might have the same problem.
I am just going to keep it cuz I don't have a dvd player at all.....
