  1. Hello,

Excuse my newbie question, but I've been trying to encode to MP4 a movie that has a DTS soundtrack only. When ffmpegx is done, I play the avi in quicktime, but I hear no sound. I have tried different settings, to no avail.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks in advance,
    ®

  2. Quicktime does not possess a codec to play back the DTS sound track, and VLC doesn't support DTS either.

  3. Thanks... does this mean that ffMpegX encoded the file correctly and if I were to play this file on a PC or whatever.. it would have sound?

  4. No, ffmpegX does not support DTS sound decoding.

  5. Major, I think he's asking if a DTS soundtrack passed through FFmpegX would play in a . Again it depends on what software is used to play it back and where the DTS is installed on the computer.

Since all DVDs require an AC3, MP2 or PCM track it would probably be better to go with one of those to ensure maximum compatability.

  6. In principle, if the DTS track has been passed through, indeed any software able to play it should play it. However, if it has been encapsulated in a MP4 container, the playback software should also support DTS being in a MP4 container.
