  2. CCleaner (AKA "Crap Cleaner")

    http://www.ccleaner.com/

You may be surprised what it finds, particularly in your registry.

[EDIT] Damn, Soopafresh posted it . Okay, I'll second that recommendation.

    virtual floppy drive

    http://chitchat.at.infoseek.co.jp/vmware/vfd.html

its good when you dont have a floppy drive, but need to create a bootable disc (which you then transfer to cd-rw)

And I guess this last could be called a freeware, I dislike standalone antivirus apps & don't install new progs every day so I use:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com

a couple times/week for virus scanning.

I can't get mine to sync with the server. It never works.

  15. Would it be possible to join all these programs into one list in this thread? It would be almost necessary though, with a line that explaijns what the program does.

    My own examples are
Snippets - a text database that is like a notepad, only all information is stored in the programs own database. In a treelike structure. This means, that if your computer breaks down, you wont lose one single character you typed

Type and run - a very russian program that i invoke with a keystroke. Its like a shell, resembling a bash command line or something, only much simpler. Its a very easy way to start programs.

Miranda IM - the best ICQ clone ever made

I use a Firefox extension called BBCode. Because every bloody forum implements the attribute coding somewhat different, BBCode is a very nice way to get for instance the bold text here, by marking and rightclicking.
I would list total commander, which is more or less my operating system, but i've heard that aint freeware.

  17. I saw audacity mentioned. Surprised no one mentioned Timidity or the abc notation programs. With these three applications and some public domain sheet music, you can create public domain background music for your home authored DVD-Rs.
    ABC info at:
    http://abc.sourceforge.net/abcMIDI/
    Timidity at:
    http://onefreehost.com/saxguru/Timidity.html

There's also a good list of freeware at:
