I am backing up a copy of Blade Runner on Laser disk to DVD. I captured the video on my DMR-HS2 using XP mode (highest quality setting) and LPCM audio on to DVD-RAM. I renamed the .VRO to .MPG and opened the file in DVDLab Pro. I have used this method in the past several times without any problems to make DVD's of home videos.

This time was a bit different b/c I was capturing in LPCM mode. Using LPCM mode on the DMR-HS2, I can capture the audio in 2.1 instead of just 2.0 sound. When I imported the .mpg in DVDLap Pro and Demuxed it, I recieved an error message that DVDLab Pro would have to convert the LPCM audio to a .wav. By converting the audio in DVDLab Pro to a .wav file, do I still retain the 2.1 audio? I wish to keep the 2.1 audio. If DVDLab Pro doesn't keep 2.1 in conversion, is there a way I could "pass through" the LPCM audio and not convert it?

    Thanks,
    Tearren

  2. Get a program (I forget it's name) to convert audio to AC3, then import to dvdlab. DVD Compliant and WAY smaller than LPCM or .wav

Thanks for the reply Jim. I am not that familiar with audio standards so I am going to ask what may appear to you to be a basic question. Will your suggestion allow me to keep the 2.1 audio? I am not concerned about the size of the LPCM and .wav. In fact, if I could I would like to pass the LPCM through and not convert.

    Thanks,

  4. dvdlab wont' take the lpcm. You need ac3 or mp2 audio. If mp2 wont' keep 2.1, then use ac3 which will.
