So basically, you want to do a motion menu where you start out with a little "mini-movie" that transitions into the proper menu with buttons.

I'm not sure that DVD Workshop can do that. Certainly, DVDWS 1.x can't do it, and I haven't played with the demo of DVDWS 2.x yet.

On the other hand, DVD-Lab Pro can do it; you might want to give it a look.

  4. I think you'd have to do it like this (If i'm understanding you
    correctly):

firstly make your final menu in dvdworkshop, then save out your project.
Poke around in the MENU folders in the DWS_TS folder, to see
the raw images. use the COLOR image as the last image (frames) of
the video you want to play when you first start the DVD.
once you have that video created in whatever app you use
for such things, you go back into your DVD Workshop project and
load that in and set it as a FIRST PLAY video, thus when the video plays
through, its last frames will be your final menu, and when the video stops the menu will become 'active'.

its kinda limited, but its a fairly good program.
I'd really like to know why they dont have a "put chapter at X amount
of time/frames" though, that drives me up the wall as the scene scanning
    stuff sucks.

    - Will.

Er... DVD Workshop does have this capability; I use it all the time. It's in the "Edit" section; you use the playback controls under the central video window to scroll back and forth through your video until you find the desired chapter point(s), then click the "Add chapter stop" button. (I forget what the actual text is next to the button; I'm at the office at the moment and not near my editor system.) Only limitation (and I think this is a limit of the DVD spec, not DVDWS itself) is that the chapter point has to be on an I-frame, but DVDWS defaults to "find next I-frame" whenever you use the frame-forward/back controls on the preview window.
