  1. I have an Iomega 4216 drive. It's 4X +-R/RW. Has anyone tried buring 8X TY discs on this drive. I have had 100% success with 4X TY. Rima, newegg, now only carry 8X. I saw in another post that TY is discontinuing 4x.

I am asking because I tried some 8X Maxells, id MXLRG03, and they only burn at 2X. DVDecrypter shows a max of 2X, Ulead DVD MF only burns at 2X.

This drive is a nec1300 clone, so I've looked at a few firmware hack forums. The latest firmware hacks don't seem to address this.

Hrm, I've had no problems burning MXLRG03 at 4x on our TDK 0404N (rebadged ND-1300). I used a DOS flasher to turn the drive into a true ND1300A with latest firmware 1.0C; perhaps you should look into that.

  3. Thanks for the tip Gen-An.

    I just looked at:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1517

It has the nec1300 1.0c and also one that's specifically for the Iomega version which will take it to v1.21.

Has anyone here tried the Iomega v1.21?

  4. I don't know any writer that you can't use TY's on. They are the most compatible media that I know of.

    While I don't have the same burner as you, I have a Sony DRU-500a (4x +/- R, 2.4x +RW, 2x -RW)... I have tried Fuji Film "up to 8x" +R's (YUDEN000T02) in my burner with mixed results.

    See my comments in... https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=250216

I hope you have better luck.

I use 4X TY all the time, great discs. The point is that it's getting harder to find 4X TY. Most online sites are only selling 8X TY today. I want to know if someone has used 8X TY on my burner and gotten 4X burns. If it only burns at 2X, then I'll look harder for 4X discs or try another brand.

  8. OD is usually where I get Maxells. It's getting harder to find the made in japan 4X. Last weekend, I went into 2 ODs, all the 4X were made in taiwan, which are not TY.
