Capped at 768 x 576 with the PicVideo MJPEG Codec at 19 quality using iuVCR. Converted to DivX with VirtualDub with a de-interlace filter and lanczos3 resize to 640 x 480.

  2. I think the Divx bitrate was too low (lots of macroblocks). Other than that it looked ok.

Cool. Yeh the bitrate was only like 900. I will up it.

    Thanks alot.

P.S I have a little problem. My setup only allows me to have audio out of one speaker, but using iuVCR it records the audio with 2 speakers. Problem is, with other programs (PowerVCR and WinDVR) the sound is only recorded as one channel.

    Any way of splitting it?

  4. As far as bitrate is concerned I recommend you try the single pass Quantization mode. It is essentially a constant quality setting. You pick the quailty you want and the bitrate comes out whatever is necessary to maintain that quality. The results are about as good as 2 pass variable bitrate when the final file size is similar, but it's much faster since it only requires one pass. The drawback is you don't know exactly how big the file will end up. You can watch the projected file size while it's encoding to get a rough idea.

I usually use a quantization value between 2 and 4. At 2 the results are usually indistinguishable from a good quality source, at 3 you can see differences in still frames but you don't really notice them on normal playback. At 4 you can see some macroblocks while it's playing. The higher the setting, the smaller the file size.

Regarding your single channel sound -- I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean your source is mono and you would like to encode it on both stereo channels? You can use a simple Y splitting adaptor from your source to do that.

  5. I have found out what is wrong, but I have no way to fix it.

In iuVCR it gives the option to select what audio you want. Obviously I selected PCM 44100 in mono (Comes out both speakers). In PowerVCR only stereo is selectable (don't ask me why). Does anyone know if this can be changed?

    Thanks in advance
