All of a sudden my CCE basic has started encoding to mpv by turning the picture upside down and mirror imaging it. The only change i can think of is the dreaded xp sp2.. although CCe site says its supported..
Am I missing something obvious?

Encoding what? I bet there's a codec/DirectShow filter somewhere that's flipping your source.

Turn your monitor upside down.
Just kidding
In directshow, select the flip video option. -
Encoding an AVI file, fused in Pinnacle Edition and an associated WAV file to elementary stream - mpv/mpa.. Resulting file plays upside down in real player, Nero Showtime etc..
Sorry to be dumb - where is this codec? In the playback software? Should it be ok if I go ahead and author with it?
thanks for the prompt attention!!

If you author it, there is a chance that the final product will be upside down.
-
Do you have directshow installed?
That would be the first thing. -
Ok. Any tips on how i get at it to modify? It's not listed as a program or in control panel..
-
You could look for it in the control panel.
system------hardware-----device manager-----video codecs. -
All i find there is a list of codecs. Is there any particular one i need to selct/delete?
Do I need to use something like DSF manager to make any changes? -
The one(s) used for playing your source. Play it in media player classic, and I think you can find what codecs/filters are involved in the playback. Look at their properties (control panel) and see if there's some flip/unflip checkbox to tick.

Can't play mpv (the resulting file) in mediaplayer classic! However I have ascertained the problem:
I did a clean install and only when I installed my DV500 capture card (funny, it's always worked fine before) which installs the Pinnacle DV codec does this problem occur. Therefore I think it is the pinnacle codec which is the problem. I wondered if it was interacting badly with SP2, so i system restored to SP1 and it still seems to be the same.
I am not given the option to 'flip' with this coidec. Can I delete it? Will it help? And if it dooes can I use my DV500 to capture??! -
Have a look at this thread. It is a sticky in the newbie general forum

Mats, I did what you suggested with the AVI and could not ascertain what the codec was. Trying shadowmistress' suggestion (via the other post), looking at codecs needed for the AVI file didn't enlighten me either. Sorry it's my lack of knowledge at fault! I don't really know enough about codecs to know what should be installed/shouldn't be. Or even how to remove one. Attempts so far to click on remove when I have opened the pinnacle Dv codec via control panel don't help! I think i am removing the driver rather than the codec if that makes any sense?
I also posted on the pinnacle forum and got an interesting response suggesting dvcodec.dll was at fault (it's a file installed by dv500). Tried deleting and reinstalling , but the same problem recurred. However if I move the file CCE works fine! So I have ascertained that dvcodec.dll is the culprit (or at least it's no longer happy in my setup). However the solution is obviously not adequate - not sure what the implication is of me removing the file for capture using DV500!!!
Any more thoughts very welcome, and thanks for your prompt attention.
Chris
