  1. Hi
I don't know if this is the right forum to post this, but it's rellated with conversion/encoding so..
Well, I have a P4 1,7GHz with 256MB RAM. I was thinking on making an upgrade to the PC by upgrading memory to 512MB or 768MB. I wanted to know if this would make the encodings fasters, for example with TMPGEnc.
Does the memory improves the speed in encoding?

CPU will help speed, not RAM

I think that more RAM will help a little bit, but certainly the CPU is where most of the improvement in speed can be had.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  5. Jonas, not really. The improvement will come with multitasking. But 256 is minimal if you're running XP.

My comp came with a measly 256, so when CC had a 50% special on Kingston 512MB DDR, I got two. (I know, really cheap). Weird things started happening. Checked them one at a time with memtest and a couple other utils I forget. Turned out one was bad, so I returned it and didn't get another. Put the 256 back in as well.

I've heard if your memory sticks don't match it MAY be a problem, but it works fine for me, and total memory shows up in properties. It may be you should just get another 256 and let it go at that. Good luck.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!

Yeah fritzi93, that's what I'll do. I was thinking only on buying one more memory of 256MB. Hope that problem won't happen to me
    Thanks again! : 8)
