need help please

I recently uploaded some old videotapes onto my computer to burn to SVCD. These tapes are about 6 years old and were taped on a mono VCR. I have them as mpeg files and when I play them I get audio in my right speaker and just a hissing in the left. But when I burned them onto a disc there was no sound but the hiss. Can anyone help me?
