  1. Hello,

I am using DVD Decryptor and CloneDVD 2 to make a backup of my DVD. I have already ripped all of the files onto my hard drive using DVD Decryptor, but I no longer have the DVD in front of me to view it.

When I open CloneDVD, I eventually come up to the menu in which one can select which Audio Stream to keep or remove and which Subtitles to keep or remove. Twice I have burned a DVD after selecting the English 2 channel audio and have unfortunately discovered that this stream was a commentary.

My question is as follows: Is there anyway to listen to the audio streams BEFORE BURNING to ensure which one I would like? I know CloneDVD SOMETIMES lists "Director's Comments" or some such comment after commentaries, but I have discovered that it does not get all of them. Is there a way to listen to the streams through CloneDVD (or another program) so that I know what's what?

Also, why are some video streams or audio streams listed multiple times? Sometimes CloneDVD will show two video streams with the exact same length and other attributes but will only select one by default. And when I select the other, the quality is not affected at all. Obviously there aren't two different video streams but what is the explanation for the multiple listing?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. So does nobody know or has this question been asked before? If the question has been asked before, I apologize for repeating it. I did a forum search but was unable to find anything regarding the question I'm asking...
If it has been asked, does anyone have the link?

  3. I have been caught with this problem as well. I tend to burn these extra audio tracks just in case. This is especially true if you select the title option as often the software guesses wrong. I remember once the original audio was mono and the director comments in stereo. I have a great backup of the movie with only director comments.

You can hear the audio tracks if you use DVDShrink to play as though you were going to edit. I also will burn on an RW disc to verify that I am doing the right thing.
Still a few bugs in the system...

  4. I ran into the same problem with my second DVD backup. I didn't need the foreign language and I only have a stereo TV so I thought the 2 CH English was what I needed. Now here is the odd twist I was dealt. My Desktop DVD player finds only the Directors comments but my computer DVD finds "portions" of the movie's soundtrack. Either way it's unusable. I suppose you'll need all the audio channels to be assured of getting what you need.

DVDShrink has a preview window, where you can select the different audio streams.

    To all:
To fix all of your problems, just re-rip the original and make another backup copy. Is that so hard ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

I already mentioned DVDShrink in my post above. Also re-ripping is not so hard, just expensive. Most of us don't want to throw away perfectly good burns just because of the wrong audio.

Play the files on your HD with PowerDVD,it has a button that allows you to cycle thru the available audio streams. IFOEDIT will show the audio streams on the disk but doesn't identify commentary streams.

I noticed that, just seconding it, that's all

I've always believed that you burn a backup, and then watch the backup so as to protect the original from any scratches etc etc. For me, a backup with the wrong audio is NBG because you can't watch it properly!

After all, it is really just carelessness to not check what is what before making the backup. As for cost, I'd much rather pay the $1 (maximum for DVD5) for another blank DVD and do the backup properly than pay $30 to replace the original, because I had been careless when creating my backup.

    ... but that's just my 2c
    If in doubt, Google it.
