  1. I have just bought and connected a Pioneer DVR 520. All is well on pre-recorded DVDs, however, if I record on either DVD-R or HDD, the picture is recorded, but I get no sound whatsoever. My set up is simple, just TV and DVD recorder, linked by scart connectors. I have tried connecting using the output jacks supplied, but got the same result. I have followed the set-up step-by-step, my husband, my son and my brother have all tried to figure out what's wrong, but can't. Is the machine faulty, or is there something obvious I am missing? Please help.

I've not had this happen with either of my two Pioneer HD recorders, but an ill fitting scart can cause problems.

Are you using the Pioneer as a pass-through to your TV - i.e. do you have cable/SKY or whatever going through it first before reaching the TV? Can you hear the TV even when the Pioneer is not recording?

  3. Thank you,
I only have a TV connected to the DVD recorder, nothing else. I do have a satellite receiver connected to my TV, but not to the DVD recorder (yet).
Sound is present before recording and during recording, but not after recording. I have tried using different scart leads, just in case the first one was faulty, but still no sound. Any further suggestions?
    Thanks for your help.

My guess is the machine is defective. If you can hear sound while recording then the cables are fine.

You can try recording at the highest-quality mode. That mode records audio as non-compressed PCM rather than AC-3 Dolby Digital for the other recording rates. Does that work?

I haven't experienced any such problem with my DVR-510H-S.

  5. I have tried your suggestion and still no result. I can only assume that the machine is defective, so I shall return it to the shop.
Thank you to everyone who tried to assist.
