  1. Well...
I got a bunch of divx movies (dvd rip) - in 16:9 or anamorphic 16:9.. (widescreen)..i like to convert to vcd (svcd) for my standalone player and widescreen tv
I tried a lot of settings in Tmpeg - but - either i get a lot of flickering (with fu*** up picture) - or some of the edges os the movies are cutted.
Is there some one who can give me the exact setting for convertion ?

Set the Aspect Ratio and the Source Aspect Ratio to 16:9 under the Video and Advanced tabs in TMPEnc Settings.
I only dream in black & white...

  3. Well - i tried that..., and i only get movies that wont play (the sound is there - but everything is flickering)
I've also tried 1:1 to 1:1 - the i i get really thin picturestream - and big black borders...
    And a second thought....
Nott all my dvd rips are in same sizes (pixels) - how do i figure out if it's 16:9 or 2:35:1 (scinemascope)..??
    Example i have 2 movies - 1 is 640x272 - 2 is 576x304.
Is there a calculating way ??

    Well....
i guess i have to try every setting in the book

    source aspect ratio 1:1 VGA
    target aspect ratio 16:9
Probably it is better to set target aspect ratio to 4:3 (more bits will allocated to each macroblock). When you watch it on a widescreenTV, switch between 16:9/4:3.

  5. Well - everytime i try to set target aspect to 16:9 - i get really bad "flimmer " (lines) - with a brpken picture in result....
Only got lucky with 1:1 or 4:3

Of course, if you encode a widescreen avi to 480x576 DAR 16:9, you have to encode 1080 macroblocks.
    480x576 DAR 4:3 is actually 480x320 = 600 macroblocks. Even better, resize to 448x320 = 560 macroblocks.
1080 vs. 560 @ same bitrate, what will look better? Think about it.
The aspect ratio of an avi is easy to calculate, divide width by height.

  7. Okay...
    So if i got an avi file with size - 576x304 - the aspect is 1.89 ?? - if i divide 16on9 i get 1.77777 - so ... whats the aspect - custom ?? (strange since it's a dvd rip)
Anyway - i see your point of wich look better...
But... I'm still baffled why i get big flicker movie with a no good picture when i do a 16:9 conversion.
It looks good on my pc - but when i stick into my Standalone dvd - it really garbage the whole picture...
