  1. By mistake I recorded a program the other day with a funny file format - it's MPEG2, 720x576, with an audio sample rate of 44100. Any suggestions of what I can use to turn it into a valid PAL SVCD?

    Hello,

tmpgenc should do it for you. Load the mpeg into tmpgenc and select the pal svcd template.

...provided you have the mpeg2 plugin for TMPGEnc (or PowerDVD installed).

  4. Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it, but tmpgenc refuses to open it - as does SVCD2DVDMPG. DVD lab will demux it, Nero Vision Express converted it OK, but the video came out jerky (which it isn't in the original)

What did you use to record it?
Anyway, you could try opening it with VirtualDubMod, frameserve to TMPGEnc for reencoding to SVCD specs.

I'd try raising the priority of your MPEG-2 codec. If that fails, I'd frameserve with DVD2AVI into TMPGEnc.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Be careful when encoding SVCD's...too high a bitrate often leads to jerkiness/freezing....try lowering the max to around 2200...with an ave of around 1600-2000...set the min at 500.
