A friend of mine tried to back RE2 up, but couldn't, so he asked if I could do it.

I succesfully backed it up using DVDdecrypter in "IFO" mode. I deselected all cells except cells 1 & 8. The rest of the cells are not needed and caused errors when ripping. I then took the single Vob I created and reauthored it for him. It worked like a charm.

  3. Just use the latest version of DVD Decrypter and it works fine !

If only some of the larger software companies updated their products as quickly and for free...

  4. Yes is columbia/tristar pictures dvd that have the new protection, RE2 and the little black book, I tried them both but having problems to back them up, tried vobblanker, dvd decripter and dvdshrink, always get errors I need a specific detailed instructions anyone please, I just do graphic design i dont know anything about backing up dvds, well I know a little dvdshrink is easy to use.

read this thread on page 1 there is instructions on how to rip it using vobblanker....i did notice you're running a MAC....i dunno maybe it won't work on a MAC......have you tried using the latest DVD DECRYPTER? another has said for RE2 to use latest DECRYPTER in FILE MODE to deselect all the cells except 1 & 8......

  6. I used Anydvd and have had no problem. The new region 1 dvd's have a newer type of CSS and Anydvd takes care of it..
Life if what you make it.

It's not any new kind of CSS. In RE2, they simply created bogus cells that have errors/bad sectors on them. They are not used for the movie, they are there purposly to thuart your garden variety DVD Rippers/coppiers. This will effectively stop your average joe from copying the dvd. Of course there's always a way around it like the method I used.

  9. What they are using is an early version of Advanced Access Content System. This can detect what type of player that the disc was inserted into and prevent access from dvd writers.

The only reason that I use AnyDVD is because it was given to me, from the company so that I can help to parse the code for them.

  10. I could only copy 14% of RE2 using DVDShrink and then lockup. But using VOBBlanker I found this very helpful.

"Instead of processing all files at the same time Skip file "VIDEO_TS.VOB" and process it separately, then put all the files together in a single file"

After ripping the VIDEO_TS.VOB file on its own with VOBBlanker, I ripped the rest using VOBBLanker then ran through DVDShrink, burned with Nero. It came out great. Hope this helps dudes.

Well after trying for the first time, Smartripper could'nt touch it. After trying DVD decrypter they must've updated it since then, had no problems there.

Tried to process with DVD2One....ran into another problem, kept getting a silly error, VOB file not matching with the IFO file, blah, blah, etc.

Finally deceided to download and try DVDshrink and it processed it first time easily.

Overall, the most trouble i had with the Resident Evil was trying to process with DVD2One which just could'nt handle it. DVDshrink took care of it though.

  13. I've been trying to backup my RE2, but I'm unable to get past 14% on DVDShrink. I can use AnyDVD or DVDDecrypter to burn it, but the file's still too big to fit on a DVD, and I get a "file Video_TS.IFO not found" error message using DVDShrink on the ripped movie. I have no idea what to do from here. I've read the thread all the way through, and none of the methods you've described so far have allowed me to shrink the file after I rip it. Advice?

  14. I just do not get it why do people keep try all this different software try to copy this movie. The FIX is very easy ANYDVD and CLONEDVD reason both program are made by the same company. ANYDVD with DVDshrink will not work. You need "ANYDVD with CLONEDVD"

  15. I have CloneDVD as well, and the combination of the two doesn't shrink the DVD file either, unless I'm overlooking something

  16. "VersionX" are you using the lastest Beta ersion of ANYDVD?

There is BOTH the Widescreen Version and the Full Screen Version on the Original RE2 disc. When you get to the video section of CloneDVD2, it has both version automatically selected. I think the first one is the Widescreen and the second is the Full Screen version. Just uncheck whichever you do not want. It will then fit on one DVD, and if memory serves, it will do it at 100% quality.

    Hope this helps.

Ok, here's a definitive answer to this, and hopefully people can STOP WHINING ABOUT IT.

    1. Use AnyDVD (latest version 4.4.1.1) and CloneDVD and your problem goes away. Don't like CloneDVD? Read on.

    2. The latest DVD Decrypter (3.5.2.0) will do it fine. It will pop up and tell you that there are 19 "suspicious areas". If you want to avoid having to click again, go to tools and settings, and change the CSS method from "I/O Key Exchange -> Brute Force" to "Brute Force -> I/O Key Exchange". This simply tells DVD Decrypter to try Brute Force first. On a reasonable machine you will hardly notice it, it will only take a second to run the brute force algorithm. However, if you don't change this setting you'll get a warning/error message late in the disc (on VTS_07) about how the I/O Key Exchange didn't work, but then the brute force cracker will work anyway.

Now, you want to know about AnyDVD without CloneDVD? I'll cover that in a few minutes, I gotta reboot for the latest version of AnyDVD to take effect, then I'll post right back here.

Now as to AnyDVD. It _ought_ to work with just about any application, including DVD Shrink. I can't think of any reason why you should HAVE to use CloneDVD with it, but with 4.4.1.1 DVD Shrink will, in fact, hit a nasty little CRC error during analysis and, presumably, fail to shrink the disc.

I'll download and try out the latest version of AnyDVD (4.5.2.1) shortly and see if that helps.

Actually it turns out that I need a full reboot - my version of AnyDVD (4.4.1.1 still) doesn't work with CloneDVD at the moment EITHER for this disc, so...

  22. This forum is great! I had a problem with Resident Evil. Did a search. Upgraded DVD Decrypter. Ripped in file mode. Used DVD Shrink as I normally do, and burned with Nero on a rewriteable DVD. Watched the movie last night, and the menus and everything worked perfectly. It was too much compression for my taste, although it looked fine on my 27", so I might experiment with VOBBLAnker before using Shrink. Thanks everyone, and thanks to the creators of these great programs!

  24. Slightly OT, will other studios follow suit with this stupid anti-ripping method?

Reason I'm asking is, although I can back up my RE2 with no problem, another title using the same copy protection method, Little Black Book, can not even be played on my standalone DVD player (Denon 910, Yamaha DVS5650, Pioneer DV-05). Even after exchanging the disc 3 times I still can't play it.

I ended up having to rip the disc, make a back up and play the back up.

    Stupid, really.

LOL, I spend more time lurking and searching, than I do posting on any of the forums I belong to. I'm an internet recluse!

Sorry for posting and not reading the whole thread, but I tried the normal stuff Shrink and Decrytper (with errors turned off what I used to back up Star Wars Trilogy) but Only VOB blanker worked.

VOB blanker should work. Don't mess with any settings just use all of the defaults and it should work.

But then again some people said DVD shrink 3.1 works. I didn't try 3.1. I have 3.2 installed already and VOB blanker worked for me.

Yeah I should have read the thread before posting, but I backed up Resdient Evil 2 before the new Decrypter version was released.

Was the new Decrypter version in Response to Resident Evil 2?

I would guess it was in response to it.

RE2 was the first thing to stop DVD Decrypter from ripping for me.

I notice that the posts By mIster Malenko from a few weeks ago say use VOB Blanker

And the posts since that Update of DVD Decrypter say use Decrypter.

this post https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1167644#1167644 lists four different ways that all should work to get around RE2, and some of them may even work for others with the same style of protection on them.
    If in doubt, Google it.
