Redundant questions. Anyway, be sure to READ THOSE OTHER THREADS.

I would highly recommend the JVC, and it has a very nice iLINK feature to transfer from DV.

  4. Get the Panasonic. JVC reportedly has some problems. The picture quality on the Panny units is outstanding, No matter what, do not get suckered into buying Liteon or Ilo.

  5. Panasonic consistently scores the best in every test review around the world (CHECK THE THREADS). This brand has the best-rounded models regarding the quality of the recordings, reliability, flexibility and simplicity of use.

Have a look on the threads in this forum. It is obvious that the longest and most “popular” ones talk about fixing the problems of the DVD recorders. How many of them are about the Panasonic models?

These long threads visited by countless number of frustrated members are about the DVD recorders that are always highly recommended from a few frequent and loud “experts” on this forum. If you want to be a member of these groups and learn how to troubleshoot, repair and upgrade DVD recorders, then buy one of those machines. If not, buy a Panasonic.

    The choice is embarrassly simple.

Why go with Panny or JVC, when you can own a Pioneer. Compare & research yourself!! Its the best.

Never owned a Panny, but I have a JVC and a Sharp (second cousin to a Pioneer) and JVC has a little better picture (cleans up noisy sources amazingly well). My JVC has a defective tuner though, but recording thru A/V inputs is fine. No one else has had this complaint about a JVC, so I would assume mine is just a fluke.

Are you sure the screen that had the progress percentage wasn't the cache emptying just after the recording stopped?

Finalizing takes about 4 minutes on a Panny. How long did yours take?

    Try this:
Put the disc in and after it finishes reading it, use the function button to go to the menu. Select disc options and see if you can start finalizing the disc from there. I suspect you didn't finalize it.

Do you usually record partial discs? I've noticed that partial burns take quite a while longer to finalize.

Yeah, now that you mention it it was a partial disc, i was just testing something because i usually only use ram disc's.
I hardly never use dvd-r in mine.

  19. I think I remember seeing somewhere that a DVD needs at least 1G to be compliant. Maybe its filling up the disk to at least 1G with dummy data.

It's not dummy data, just a huge lead-out.
