    "Product Description
Make DVDs with the push of a button or two. Sony’s new DVDirect DVD Recorder is the easiest way to turn home movies into DVDs. You’ll have a DVD that can be played on most consumer set-top DVD players or your computer’s DVD-ROM drive. Up to 6 hours of home video will fit on standard DVD recordable or rewritable discs, and with new Double Layer DVD discs, up to 12 hours can be recorded on a single disc. DVDirect can even be connected to a computer via Hi-Speed USB for high speed DVD burning and other cool things."

I wonder if Lite-On makes the drive in that unit, like it does the other Sony writers

I've heard many bad things about Sony DVD writers. My Sony Vaio desktop even came with a Pioneer 107 writer instead of a Sony, so that tells you something

But it sounds nice and convenient. I'd like to see user reviews though, before I'd ever consider it.

    It is a LITEON.

That Sony product is stupid. Just get a DVD recorder with "iLINK" and you're set. PLUS you have a full DVD recorder. I don't get it.

    Sure, +DL, I guess.

This is the only DVD recorder I know of that appears to be the size of an external burner, but you can record w/o a computer. Even the similar looking HP unit still needs a computer to operate.
This might be a good unit to record DVD in the field.

I might try this unit out for work.
    Any comments?
