Either I'm very lucky or ignorance is bliss. I used primarily Memorex printables (from Amazon) until they discontinued the item over the summer. I burned about 200 of those on my Sony 510UL external. I had maybe one or two failures, which I attributed to too much multitasking while burning.
When Amazon dropped the Memorex -R's I took a chance on a spindle of Dupsonics at NewEgg (50 for $18.99 including s/h). I'm using the thermal printables. I just mark with a Sharpie. I've had one bad burn (the top disc was mashed in the packaging). All discs are playing fine in all my DVD drives (Toshiba & Sony), a Memorex, RCA and Phillips standalone players. No complaints from family and friends either.
Only really weird problem I had was a Memorex Printable that plays fine but showed a CRC when I tried to copy.
Just what are you people doing to your media?

You can use a Sharpie on any DVD. Why are you using Thermal Printables? -
At such contradicting experience from different people I think it would be helpful to have statistical data.
Unfortunately, the selection menu of https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia does not contain a selection criterium "inkjet printable" / "non inkjet printable". If that would be the case, then it would be much easier to do statistics, if there is a higher percentage of problem reports about inkjet printable media than about non inkjet printable media. -
Agree, you can always report them as new discs and add "printable" to the name. But a "printable" option would probably be better.
I also wish people would try burning all 4.37GB before they report. Most discs are ok if you stay under 4GB, it's the last few percents of the disc that is critical. -
Got Prodisc F01 DVD-R from rima recently,
seems the silver inkjet printable surface had been improve,
dry very quickly after print out.
I use previous prodisc with code MCC02 silver printable, it take approx. 24 hours to fully dry out.

I have been using the Prodisc F01 DVD-R silver printables and they, so far, are working great. I used to use labels on ritek discs and that really killed them quick. Using 3500a
These prodiscs dry instantly, read well and look better than oem printed dvd's. Origional dvds use white backgrounds, the silver discs have a hallographic look to them, its really cool
