Hi!
I must say first that I'm a big newbie in what concerns to capturing! So what I'd like to know is how to convert my old VHS tapes to DVD! After having the files in .avi or .mpg I know what to do to convert them to DVD, authoring, etc..but what I don't know is how can I connect my VCR to my computer? What cables should I use? What programs should I have to do this? Isn't there any helpful guide to do this?
I must say that my graphics card is this one:

So how can I connect my vcr to the computer? Please help! I would appreciate a help on this! Thankx!

Also you have to connect the audio out from your vcr to the line-in on your sound card with a 1/8 stereo male adapter.Virtual VCR is a good capture program to use.
I think,therefore i am a hamster. -
Hi and thanx for the fast reply!
Yes my graphics card has a S-Video connection, and a Video In connection (is that what you call a composite?)! So what can I do? Do I connect by S-Video or by Video In? And if I use Video In I must connect too to the VCR using the jack for the video?
Please answer this..

OK, most likely the composite jack will have a yellow "ring" around it - all this uses is your standard AV yellow, red & white/black leads from your VCR. Opinions are divided as to whether S-Video or composite is better when coming from VHS.
So you can connect the video by either.
As johns0 said, make sure to connect your audio to your sound card also. You'll probably need a RCA-to-stereo lead (a single RCA to stero if you have a mono VCR, or a 2 RCA to stero if you have a stero VCR), which you should be able to get from most electronics stores. If in doubt, Google it. -
I hate to be the wet rag but do you have the manual? I don't know squat about the card that you have and there was no tech link in the reveiws. My guess is that you can hook you VCR up to your PC with standard RCA jacks, S-video cable or maybe even coax. Configure the PC tuner to pick up whatever way you feed the signal, find the VCR function or capture function and tweek the settings to meet your needs. I have had more than a few programs that don't give the Help that pertains to what you want to do, until you open that part of the program. So I would say start looking around inside of your programs that came with your card for help and good luck.

I went to the reviews in his link and didn't see any tech specs so I figured he needed some basic direction
I started my reply before your second, I had just seen some of your other replies and didn't think that you would be adding much moreIS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
Hi again!
I'm having a problem with capturing! I haven't been able even to make the PC detect the VCR! I don't know what's the problem! I followed this guide:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/160618.php
and it says that nvidia geforce graphics boards should have installed the WDM drivers. I've done this too, by going to nvidia.com and downloaded, but after installed it says it doesn't recognize the hardware..I even tried and installed the WDM v1.08 driver that the guide above talks about, but nothing!
When I open such programs like WinDV or VirtualVCR, why it always says that no device detected? What am I doing wrong? Please help, I don't know what the problem is!
Thankx..thoughts arrive like butterflies.. -
Check your capture source in the settings. Make sure that it is set to what you are useing. Recheck everything as per the guide.
