  4. Yes just burn all the files to a dvd or a cd, then load the disc menu the menu comes up select the .sub you want, then select the movie you want.

    Yes it does play Xvid.

  7. There are 2 types of .sub, text-based (.sub or .srt alone) and picture-based (.sub+.idx). Only the text-based is supported at the moment for this player. If you really want .sub+.idx to work, consider Pioneer players like DV-470 and DV-575A and maybe DV-676A.

There are websites that you can search for subtitles most of them offer text-based versions of .sub+.idx.

Search the forum or read more here for how to display subtitles: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86990

  8. I thank you so much for the response

I had and last issue i have updated the firmware of my philips Dvd player

& i have made few avi multi episode dvd-r &theyskip once in a while (it's REALLY bugging me) i can't enjoy this player one cent since i got it

is there some update that corrects that or maybe i didn't update the right one ?
or maybe because i burned it at 2.4x with nero ?

i really don't know because on my pc the files are flawless

  9. The new update only ads Macrovision. Somtimes i get a Bit of a Skip, Not really a big deal.

  10. hayabusa, I'm not sure if the latest 11xx firmware could cause that problem I'm still using 05xx. And do you mean skip between scenes in the same file OR skip between files on the same disc? Anyway I would try changing the media. Philips loves the + format (DVD+R/+RW) not the - (DVD-R/-RW) although it can play many - media. Or else I would try other brands of - . Every player has its own list of love/hate media. Some drives love expensive media, somes love cheap media, some love both, some mix. This might help: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia . Also try other burning speeds. Also I would try, before consider changing media, playing backed-up DVD (in DVD mode not file mode) to see whether it's the media or it's the file mode that causes the problem.

  11. Weird because i just burned the same file to 4x .... & the place that was skipping isn't skipping anymore..............(maybe the rest will but i will check that later'')

Also i found out (it plays some avi well but the ones with subs sometime yit stretches it a bit & hides the subs ....)

also i had a Xvid (everyone told me it reads them....) it seems false since i tryed one & i see the first image & after a fraction it pops in a multicolor screen & just do that for ever (weird thing)

Also .sub are not supported like the manual says it was grrrrr

it needs to be .srt (that means converting it typing major part of the text for Each movie....)

right now i am not that satisfied with the player.......
maybe i should of waited or just bought something else ...:S

This Player plays Xvids.can't play files encoded with the Quarter Pixel (QPEL) feature. Many can't play files with Global Motion Compensation (GMC) -- although I think the Philips can.

  13. but about the avi(divx)

with subtitles .... that are hiden by the tv it's so frustrating cause it was a Divx (& was supposed to replicate what i see on my pc screen)

anyways , i really dunno what my player will play or not so i don't know if i wil burn other dvd-r, just to throw them in the garbage for (skipping/bad image cut by tv or simply not playing/)

it's sad i really thought i was going to have fun watching my movie on my tv i guess it not for tomorrow:P

Didn't you read my post above about .sub? The manual isn't wrong.

  16. you said text based subtitles but in the manual they don't state it they just say .sub.srt .smi

Canadatek : it playedeverything (region 1) no other region / it plays some avis some divx (but with subs hidden by tv bad ',playing'' skipping'' ) so for 70$ it was okay to buy it for vcds svcd (region 1 dvd ) & for the Divx mode that still needs sooooooooooo much work

To play other region you need to do the remote hack.I have had no problems,Maybe you should change it for a new one.

What do you mean cut all over?
What are the specs of your Divx files?
