  1. I've been trying to compress a FCP-3 movie to Mpeg2 for a DVD. I wanted to use Compressor because I need to make movie smaller in size as well as into an mpeg2. The movie length now is 90 min. and will be too large for the DVD. Am I using the word compress correctly, Compressor will not only use different codecks, but also compress the file, right?

I import the source media, set the entry, destination, and output filename, then when I submit I get the following notice. "Cannot submit batch Unable to connect to background process." I've read the help file and find no referrence to this error.

I sure could use some help with situation.

    Thanks,

    Patt

  2. I couldn't submit a batch when I had a pirated version of DVDSP. But since I bought Production Suite, it solved all my problems.......don't know if this is your problem or not

This problem with Compressor has been widely reported. There are various "fixes" for this problem. Do a search in this forum:

    http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@259.JAYmaUzsGJd.1@compressor

and you'll be sure to find one that works for you.

P.S. At the very least, make sure you have the latest update installed (version 1.2.1).

  5. My, this isn't just my problem. Would you believe I did a search on the Apple discussion and found nothing? Thank you very much Direwolf, at least I know I am not alone. I will upgrade first to 1.2.1. After reading most, if not all, of the compressor comments, it looks like a very difficult thing to accomplish, but thanks to you at least I have a place to start.

    Many appreciations,

    Patt

  7. Well, I've upgraded, no luck. Disabled ethernet and FW, I think I got to the terminal and opening up a new terminal

I Typed in the following command -
sudo /Library/StartupItems/Qmaster/Qmaster and typed in my administor password. Then I was suppose to see a message "Starting Qmaster services". I'm told this is the background process that Compressor needs to connect to.
I never saw the "starting Qmaster services.

This is as far as I know to go, but I'm not completely sure I did the terminal thing right.

    Try this one:

Through the Finder, Go To Folder "/etc" to find the "hostconfig" file.

Hold the Command (apple) key down, click and drag that file to the desktop...it will ask for your admin password, enter it and it will move the file to the desktop.

Add an ".old" extension to that file name and then Command/Click/Drag back to the "etc" folder.

    Restart.

    Cross your fingers.
