I made a DVD and the custom menu, I made, came up at start-up in my stand alone DVD player as it should. The movie starts - no problem. When I switch from the main menu to chapters, I can locate any chapter and navigate among them, but when I hit the play button, the main movie starts and not the selected chapter. What have I forgotten to do? I would like to play selected chapters from the main menu. Should be a simple solution.
    Please advise

What program(s) did you use to make your DVD?

Once you've selected the chapter, try pressing the Enter button or similar on your remote. The play button generally defaults to either "play first chapter" or "play all".
    If in doubt, Google it.

I copied a VCR tape to my JVC DVR. Then I converted to mpg and saw I did not need to edit, as all I wanted was there. Now, I used TempGenc DVD Author 1.5 to burn. Before I burned, I made the chapters and a custom menu. Edited the menu to my taste and proceeded to burn.
Everything came out fine, but I cannot get the chapters to play.
I checked Display Main Menu and After First Track is played. Chapters do not play. How can I get the chapters to play?

Have you tried the disk in another player? Maybe it's the machine.

What happens if you select a chapter first (when the DVD comes up), does that work?
I would try to re-author it if I were you... Hopefully, you've saved your project and you can do that easily. Otherwise, you can also try to "debug" your DVD in PgcEdit (there's a "trace" function that lets you "play" the DVD as you normally would, while watching what's going on)... But I think it would be easier to re-author...

There must be something in TDA that you missed somehow. How did you setup the chapters? Have you used TDA before with success? Are you following a guide?

I would re-author, you can simply use TDA and select "add dvd video."

This should work, but it does not.

    1. Rip with DVD Decrypter
    2. make mpg with TDA to edit out junk
    3. Open mpg in TDA and create chapters
    4. Select custom menu and change fonts, sizes, etc.
First Play Action: Display Main Menu
Action after each track: Display Main Menu
    5. Output to TDA Video_ts file and burn

If I select chapter first, it then plays the main movie, not the chapter.

Can you post screenshots of your menu settings ?

Do you just have the one track, or multiple tracks ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

Since it is a single movie, I have one track. I can get pics of the setup screens, but how do you post them here on this sight?

I am also wondering if it is the DVD Player. I have a JVC DR-10S recorder and another DVD player is built into my TV(Panasonic).

Put this in the body text:
    [img*]filename.ext[/img*]

    (without the *'s)

Then use the browse button near the submit button to browse to the file. It must be under 150K, be a JPG, PNG or GIF, and have no spaces in the filename.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Do this:

You can only do one image at a time, so do your first one, submit, then edit your post, do the second, submit, edit your post .... and so on.
    If in doubt, Google it.

OK, so on the main menu, if you click on the play all button, it commences with the first chapter ?

... and if you click on the thumbnail picture, it takes you to the chapter 1 selection menu ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

When I click on the thumbnail it takes me to the first chapter. If I navigate to another chapter and hit the play button it does not play that chapter, but rather the main movie. That's the problem.

In the main menu hitting the play button starts the main movie.

What happens when you click on the thumbnail for the chapter you wish to play ?

I never did that and just tried it---WOW!! It played the chapter. Now, I know I have to highlite the thumbnail of the desired chapter to get it to play.

Thank you for your effort and it was greatly appreciated

    Happy New Year

What happens is that the Play All button on the main menu plays all tracks - in this case, you only have one track so it just plays the entire feature from the beginning. On the track menu, the play button plays the entire track unless you select a specific chapter thumbnail.
    If in doubt, Google it.
