I read in this site that a VCD video has a bitrate of 1150 kbit/s. SVCD has up to 2600 kbit/s.

If I create a VCD with 1500 kbit/s, for example, it will result in loss of space without increase quality?
If it isn't possile, I only can make movies with bitrates higher than 1150 on SVCD?

The movies in question will be made to watch in a standalone DVD Player.

    Thanks in advance

  2. If you make a VCD with a higher bit rate than 1150Kbits per second it will actually be an xVCD and the higher the bitrate the better the picture quality - have a look here:

    https://www.videohelp.com/xvcd.htm

It may play on your DVD player (or nowadays should). Try it out on a CD-RW and see if it works.

Or alternatively, have a look if your DVD player will play XVCDs here:

    Hope that this is helpful.

    VCD is 352 * 240/288 1150kbps video, 44.1KHz 224kbps MP2 audio. end of story.

SVCD is 480 * 480/576 video, 44.1Khz MP2 audio, with video able to go up to 2600, audio to be between 32 & 384kbps, with the total combined bitrate not to exceed 2778kbps.

If you go outside these specs, you're looking at (X)(S)VCD's.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I created a VCD with 1400 kbit/s and my standalone DVD Player ran it just fine.

    My question is:
Did my DVD Player run that VCD with its bitrate (1400 kbit/s) or it ran with 1150 kbit/s, loosing the extra bitrate?

And, is there a difference in the quality beetwen VCD and SVCD, both with same bitrate (1400 for example)?

You created an XVCD, and your player can play them by the sounds of it.

So Yes, it ran at 1400kbps.
    If in doubt, Google it.
