  1. Mods, please relocate this in the appropriate forum, if this is not correct! Also feel free to direct me to a section that may answer my questions,,,I am not opposed to reading,,but currantly am "kind of confused" thank you, coadman

I have an "old" Zenith camcorder that takes the compact vhs-c tapes. I have some older movies that I would like to try and copy to a DVD. Can this be done? There is an audio/video output slot on the camcorder which allows me to view the tape directly on a tv, or I can place the vhs-c tape in a vhs tape adaptor and play the tape in any VCR. If I can copy these tapes(somehow) I would sure appreciate any instruction you all could supply, as far as what software I need, etc. I currantly have a LiteOn 411s that I use for burning my DVD's.
    thanks,
    coadman

No offence but...since you had to ask such a question...I would suggest buying a DVD Recorder to transfer your home movies.
Jumping into computer capturing when DVD Recorders are readily available and fairly inexpensive is pain crazy.......that would be MY personal choice....buy a DVD Recorder. JVC or Pioneer....moderately priced, nice results and easily editable with most computer software.

I own a DVD Recorder and a computer burner....best of both worlds. You're already half way there.

No offense taken! I had thought about purchasing a dvd recorder, but until I get to a city where I can purchase one, I thought I might be able to tinker around this afternoon/evening and see what I could come up with. I live in the country about 60 miles away from any stores selling dvd recorders, but I am intending on checking them out. thanks for the response and a happy holiday to you and your family!

Wish I could help more but....I chickened out when it came to computer capturing. My only video to computer stuff I do is from my DV cam to my computer. Did it once....then back to my DVD Recorder I went....
Good luck to ya'....and "Patience my son"...

  5. Few different ways to do it:

    1) internal PC capture device (internal cp card like an ati tv wonder pci card)
    2) external pc capture device (ads, usb devices, etc., using DV camcorder as passthrough to import into PC via USB or firewire)
    3) standalone dvd recorders

For most, the standalone dvd record is the way to go. What I actually do is record onto dvd-ram (I own a panasonic E30), take that into the PC and then use TMPGENC DVD Author to edit and make the final DVD

I would recommend (as the other poster said) to purchase a DVD recorder. Do a search for a poster by the name of lordsmurf. He (and others) have done a lot of unbiased research on the best dvd recorders.

Do you have some sort of video capture device on your PC? If you don't then I'm afraid it's just not possible to input the video without it. Of course a DVD recorder is an alternate method that I recommend as well.

For about $70 you can buy an Adaptec VIDEOh! rca to usb 1.1 device that will easily and quickly capture from your camcorder to computer. Comes with editing software, too. I own one. But, be warned, although it is USB, it is not hot-swappable. If you unplug it while your computer is on, it will blue-screen instantly. You must shut the computer down normally, then unplug it and reboot. Places like CompUSA and Tiger Direct sell it.

Yes. Capture card, DVD recorder. Pick one.
Best to use the recording camera for playback too.
