    Hi

    When i play a tape any tape,i get a small line running horizontally at the bottom of the screen but when i start capturing it dissapears.What is the course of this.Can this be avoided?

    The line could be tracking being misadjusted on your VCR.

    You could also be seeing the area at the bottom that is missing from the final video because of overscan on the TV. There's a margin all the way around a captured video that doesn't appear when you view it on a TV.

    I'm afraid I don't understand your question - if it disappears when you start capturing, isn't that a good thing ?

    Is there a standard for this margin? When looking at VHS tapes, it appears as if the bottom and left are large dead areas while the top and right have much less if any.

    I'm looking for something like, "Overscan should be 4% on the left, 5% on the bottom, and 1% on top and right." This way when making DVDs I can have the most viewable picture without losing anything to typical TV overscan.

    Is there such a specification
