    Hello--
I often put on a DVD when I go to sleep at night. Lately its been the new Simpsons Season 5, which I noticed runs on a continuous loop instead of just freezing on the main page. Often times I fall asleep before I turn off the machine. Is this bad for the dvd player? I realize its probably not the best thing for it, but will it burn out the unit prematurely? Any thoughts appreciated, thanks!

Well, if it's playing continuously for 8 hours, sure, it will shorten the machines lifespan. You might look for a player that has an automatic shutoff or 'sleep' feature. Or is there any way to disable the continuous play feature?

Anyway if there is no way around turning it off, as long as you don't pay too much for a player, maybe the answer is, let it burn.

  3. I have a player that has "Auto Off/Sleep" the probelm with mine is,If the DVD has a motion menu it will stay on,but if it is a still menu then it will shut off,So keep that in mind if you go to buy a new player.

  4. I bought a plug with a timer in it. The plug cuts the power to the DVD player after a certain amount of time. It's not the best way to shut it down but it works.

Unfortunately my dvd player nor the receiver it's hooked up to has a timer on it. Looks like I'll go the "lamp" timer route, which is something I have been thinking about anyways. $7.99 for a timer sounds a lot better than $$ for a new DVD player. Thanks for the suggestions.
