Use the VobSub program called SubReSynch. Load the .sub file, save it as a .srt file. Remember to rename the new file with a .srt extension.
    Hello.

When you type in the text with vobsub you only need to type in the characters used once so be patient and input roughly 50-60 characters.

You will notice as the more characters you type in the more lines you will skip till all the characters have been found.

You may want to try my way first. It takes about ten seconds.

go to www.extratitles.to and download the subs.

tommyknocker: if it is sub/idx you must identify all characters.

Since I have no idea what you mean, I grabbed some .sub subtitles from an old project of mine (LOTR:FOTR), loaded them into SubReSynch, saved them as an .srt file, and used an old UM football clip I also had laying around. This what I came up with by loading the .srt file into Virtual Dub's TextSub filter:

    Hello.

  7. Well, if they are the text based sub files, then your method will work fine, Tommyknocker. Baldrick is referring to the idx/sub vobsubs which aren't text based, and which must be OCR'd to convert them to srt. Since it seems to me that hayabusa is having trouble converting idx/subs via OCR, then Baldrick's reply might work if text based subs for the movie are available. But hayabusa really wasn't very clear about what he he had, or what he was doing, and I found it a bit confusing also.

I much prefer SubRip over VobSub's SubResynch for OCR.

It shouldnt take an hour to type,it only needs to know all the common letters and characters that will be used, once you identify each one it goes on to the next.

  10. Hi-

That's one of the advantages of using SubRip for the OCR. You save the sum file, and if you've screwed up on the typing, then you reopen the sum file, make the changes necessary, and then redo it without further typing.

If you do make typing mistakes, you can also run the srt through a spellchecker when done.

Direct conversions to text based subs aren't possible from idx/sub. Sorry.

  11. it seems a long process.....

they really should put a convertor that would do it by it self....
I mean there zillions of key you hit 100000times ,.....

it's kinda frustrating but ..... there seems to be no other choice hummm

My keyboard only has 105 keys, and for a normal OCRed subs conversion, you have to press each key twice, tops. If you understood this process, you'd understand why you have to teach the ripper how each character looks. But it's a quick learner.
If you still think it's too tedious, take Baldricks advice:
go to www.extratitles.to and download the subs.

  14. Hi-

Although I don't really approve of the practice, because my DVD/MPEG-4 player doesn't play any external subtitles at all, I sometimes burn the idx/sub into the video. You could do the same thing and save yourself the frustration. It's as simple as adding this to your AviSynth script (you are using an AviSynth script, aren't you?):

    LoadPlugin("C:\Path\To\VSFilter.dll")
    VobSub("C:\Path\To\VTS_01_0")

Or you can add the idx/sub through VDub(Mod), although that's slow and obsolete.
