Well, I tried a high quality cable, connecting VCR's Scart output with Capture Card's S-Video input.
There is some difference , sure the low quality cable increases the problem but it is not the cause of it because the "wash out problem" remains.

Also, the Scart to S-Video connection was providing only B/W, no colour at all and all these observations were made without colour.

I suspect that my VCR does not have the ability to provide the chroma but only the luma signal so it seems that connecting to S-Video input seems to be impossible.
Do you have any other explanation? I remind you that most European VCR's do not have S-Video output and this is the reason I am taking the signal thorough a Scart socket.

  4. As I understand it there are two types of Scart/S-Video cables, an S-Video to Scart cable, and a Scart to S-Video cable. They are not interchangable, and the symptom when using the wrong cable is a b/w picture (ie, luma only, no chroma).

There may also be a setting on your VCR for composite vs. S-Video out.

How is the picture if u use the VCR only as a tuner?
Just tune the VCR to some channel with a good picture and see if that works ok.
That would be a good way to test and rule out some cable issue's

Also are you sure you are not splitting the video signal somehow?
I have seen (about) the same kind of picture when someone had connected 2 monitors with a simple Y cable splitter. That sure will give problems.

@ junkmalle: I know but nope, its the cable with the right direction. no S-Video out for my VCR as I was saying.

@ The_Doman : I ll try to use VCR as a tuner just for curiosity. An no, I m not splitting the signal.

  7. I also recommend you try capturing from some other device.
