I think they should do a nice Gremlins 3. I think they could do a very good job at it if they really put major effort into it.

I just think that there's some companies out there that are getting hyper at making sequels to get money, that they aren't taking anything seriously about the next installment's creation. Disney's the biggest offender of this mishap. WHat's next? 'Snow White 2' or 'Return to the Song of the South (The new politically correct story)'?
Uncle remus is a black-hispanic halfbreed from an urban neighborhood of Delaware, with stories stolen from Aesop, but they are so barely known that nobody will know the difference. Bambi's mother doesn't die, she just falls ill to some odd jungle disease and we all assume she's dead without actually being shown or identifying the actual death.
I honestly think that there's a good chance for a great many movies to have highly popular sequels IF there's strong effort put into them to make them good. And I'm not talking about super special effects and explosions. There needs to be a strong write of the script. Lately, movies have been lacking this. -
Hello,
Doramius:
Have you heard the commentary in Back to the Future part 3???? They were talking about the very same thing back in 1990 or whenever the last btf was made. In fact they said that in the drive thru movie sequence when Marty goes back to 1885 they put "sequels" from the 50s in the marquee to show that sequels have been around almost as long as movies have. They're just a natural byproduct of something that people grow to like. Of course sequels never are the same as the original. They're not meant to be. They're just supposed to continue the fun and enjoyment of the first movie.

BUMP!
Well I wanted to mention some new series I've recently added to my collection and I remembered this thread.
I watched Rush Hour 3 last fall in the theater and liked it. I got the dvd when it came out. So naturally I ended up getting Rush Hour 2. I have just finished watching Rush Hour 1 after buying it last week (took about three different sessions to watch it all).
I also bought the Lethal Weapon collection the other month. It has all four movies in it. I like that also. Not that deep on the story level but fun nonetheless.
I have also picked up some other movies at the local gamestop on buy one get one free deals (actually buy two get two free). I picked up Monsters Inc, Ice Age 1, Shanghai Noon, and Blade Runner. I still haven't watched Blade Runner yet. Believe it or not I have never seen Blade Runner. Oh I also picked up DOOM on dvd as wellI know a bit of a let down though I did see it in the theater in its original release. It was worth seeing the end of the movie where they finally did the first person action - that was a lot of fun on the big screen. Brought back a lot of memories.
Hope you don't mind me bumping an old thread here. I just didn't want to start a new movie thread when I remembered a suitable one was out there (the Rush Hour trilogy and Lethal Weapon series).Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

Haven't heard about Toy Story 3 though I wouldn't be suprised.
Actually I thought Ice Age 2 was rather dull. Kind of a typical sequel, take what worked in the first but add nothing new. Although Scrat was great as everDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
having done some browsing, I can happily confirm that Buzz Lightyear and the gang are coming back for a third dose. Yippee ! Wether its 2009 or 2010 is unclear yet. still a long way off, but great movies all the same. Apparently the first Toy Story is inducted into the 100 all time greats hall of fame (or some such), and is the only animated movie other than Snow White.
-
Toy Story 3 might be hard to produce. Jim Varney and 2 other people who provided voices have passed away. No Slinky, Squeaker, Binocular, and I think 2 other characters. Very Sad.
I have the Pirates of the Caribbean and Bourne trilogies. -
Toy Story 3 was on the books at Disney before they bought Pixar. At that stage Pixar was not interested, and if it had gone ahead, it would have been horrible. My understanding is now that John Lasseter is heading up Disney Animation, it is now back on the books as a future project. With Pixar being involved again it stands a chance of not being a complete abomination.
Personally, I generally only buy the movies that I am interested in. I have a few complete sets (Dollars trilogy, BTTF - for the wife - the Omen trilogy, LOTR), but others just aren't worth the money - DH2 ? Alien Ressurection ? Lethal Weapon 4 ? Mad Max 3 ? Blade 3 ? none are worth watching IMO, and so not worth owning.Read my blog here.

@ GUNS1INGER
You didn't like Lethal Weapon 4??? Aww man that was fun....
Now I never saw any of them in the theater but it has its moments. Heck the opening sequence with the pyro nut and the exploding gas tanker is worth it right therePlus Chris Rock is fun it - he played well off of Joe Pesci....
Besides I bought the 4 pack for Letheal Weapon and it wasn't even 20.00 if I remember right - and that was new
Now I won't be buying Lethal Weapon on Bluray anytime soon - that's for sure.
Now maybe if I get a 1080p set instead of my 1330x768p 32" I might consider some movies that I would pass on now for high def copies...... Maybe....Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Hey great ! I just found out there's a Ice Age 3 in production. Terrific. Again, slated for next year or some such.

You will need to update the Indiana Jones Trilogy

I think at 5+ movies, they give up hope and use the term Anthology. Covers all the bases forever :P
