Get back to triliogies there are other places for serious video talk. I was joking about SECAM.

You don't have to have a widescreen TV to view widescreen. A widescreen TV just shuts up the people who gripe about black bars on the top & bottom of the screen. However, if a film is originally 1:83 format, you get plack bars on the sides anyway. The black bars don't mean anything. Full Screen chops your picture up and then PAN to the most important action. In many movies, a lot is lost. Check out Star Wars EPS. 5 when you see the bounty hunters Vader has hired to get the Millenium Falcon. You lose some of the Bounty Hunters you were meant to see. THat's only a minor loss, FOR THAT SCENE. There's a lot of lost action in several movies and various other scenes. FullScreen is like taking a panoramic picture of the three pyramids and only developing the one in the middle. Then what was the purpose of taking a panoramic picture? If it's because you wanted all 3 pyramids, why are you only developing the middle one?
IMO FullScreen Versions are basically just for people who don't know better or understand the truth about the way the formats are made. -
they are not filmed with NTSC in mind ..
they are not converted to secam - there is no such thing as dvd secam disks...
you can not really see the diff. between 24 and 25 fps , but you can see diff. between 25 and 30 for sure ..
films have made for years that play at 30fps , 48fps and 60 and even 72 ... 30 - 60 fps films i work with a lot in my business , yes they use a stronger substrate ..
i wish hdtv would have standardized at 30fps and 48fps - it looks much nicer - but it was not to be ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
even with wide screen tv's you get bars top and bottom a bit anyway
sometimes a lot for 2.35:1"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
I remember in the late 80's early 90's a system called DMAC came out in the UK for sattellite TV. It was used by British Sattelite Broadcasting (BSB) who where the first rival to Sky, who used PAL. I'm not sure but I think it had the higher res of PAL, the frame rate of NTSC, and digital sound. Unfourtunaly BSB flopped big time.

I like to view things however they were created.
I dion't like anything chopped off ever.
I don't have a widescreen TV, but I always go for the native ratio.
I want the whole picture even if it is smaller on my TV.snappy phrase
I don't know what you're talking about. -
doppletwo - most film is chopped off -- the native res is 1.33 and its masked off to 1.85

Seems I was wrong, D-MAC is still only 25fps....

Yes it is chopped, but the director and/or cinematographer shoot it knowing how they are going to chop it.
I guess instead of native I should have said the ratio intended by the creator.snappy phrase

1.83:1 ratio is considered FullScreen, but I consider anything Full screen anything thats chopped from the original ratio. I have many 1.83:1 ratio movies that were filmed in that ratio, so I still consider those Original Aspect, not Full Screen, because the whole original aspect ratio is kept. Any time a disclaimer states, "THIS FILM HAS BEEN ADJUSTED TO FIT THE SIZE OF THIS SCREEN" message appears I flip out. My wife knows this after buying Jurasic Park the lost world & SW Eps.2 in FS. I turned her from her ways and after JP2, but the SW Eps.2 was an accident as she thought she grabbed the WS version. We took it back and got the WS version later that day. Not showing are my Simpson's Box sets (I really wasn't sure if they would be considered "TRILOY box set material) & The new release of the 2 Ewok movies (as someone is borrowing them at the moment).
THese are my box sets, series, trilogies, etc.

I don't think you can see it Very well, but on the shelf with Shrek & Amazing Stories, the first 2 are the Allan Quartermain DVDs "King Solomon's Mines" & "Lost City of Gold" starring Sharon Stone & Richard Chamberlan. I've debated wether or not to put League of Extraordinary Gentlemen with it, because I'm also hoping to get the Invisible Man box set. I will place The Man Who Wasn't There and Memoirs of the Invisible Man with the Collection, as well. I also have the complete James Bond Collection, but again they aren't Trilogies, so I held them back. I'm a bit of a movie fan.
You may have seen them before, but I put the different Eps. 1 & 2 covers in the jackets. I liked these better. -

Amazing stories was a great show. I didn't even realize it's on DVD.
I think I will get it.
Do your Bond movies have that messed up fake Ratio, there was a thread about?snappy phrase
I don't know what you're talking about. -
No, I waited for the 2nd generation to come out, just like with Back to the Future. I always check out the information in detail before the releases. The gripe about the aspect ratio was caught by people before it made it out onto shelves. I'm not exactly sure how, but I had good sources that paid out well.
