  1. Hello,

I recently purchased a Philips DVP642, and I'm having a hell of a time getting it to play anything I encode. It plays xvids I download fine (burned Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars and a few other things on a disk, and Farscape was all it would play) but nothing I convert.

I've been using mencoder to do the conversion, with the following different option sets, all with no luck. Some freeze up about 30 seconds in, others have horrible sync problems and video skips, and some won't play at all (black screen, time on player jumps by minutes, no audio.)

-of avi -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vqmin=2:vmax_b_frames= 0:keyint=130:vbitrate=1100

-of avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=196 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts vhq=4:max_key_interval=200:max_bframes=0:aspect=4/3ass=2:bitrate=1100 -endpos 0:10:0

-of avi -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vqmin=2:vmax_b_frames= 0:keyint=130:vbitrate=1100

-of avi -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vqmin=2:vmax_b_frames= 0:keyint=130:autoaspect:vbitrate=1100

-of avi -oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:vcodec=mpeg4:vhq:vqmin=2:vmax_b_frames= 0:keyint=130:aspect=4/3:vbitrate=1100

-of avi -oac mp3lame -lameopts abr:br=196 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts vhq=4:autoaspectass=2:bitrate=1100 -vf crop=480:348:0:64 -endpos 00:10:00

Any ideas, or anyone know of some Linux software that definately works with these things? I'd prefer to use some sort of mpeg4 so I can fit more content on a DVD, but I'll go down to mpeg2 if I have to.
